Im looking into applying with the San Diego Sheriff's Detentions/Courts when I turn 18. My main question is for anyone with the knowledge of how the SDSO works. Is it realistic for the SDSO to hire you at 18 for Detentions and Courts? On the website it says the minimum age is 18, but I want to know if anyone has actually seen someone hired at that age.

Ill have graduated high school with a GPA of 3.0-3.5, enrolled in Miramar college for an AA in Admin of Justice and have completed an Internship at Spawar ( Government Defense Contractor ) and I can honestly say ive never smoked pot in my life.

The things that are working against me are two speeding tickets at 16. One for 90 in a 65 and the other for 92 in a 65 ( both from the CHP ). For the first 6 months of driving, your not suppose to have anybody under the age of 25 in your car. So added onto one of those tickets was a violation of that because I had a friend in the car who was also 16.

Thanks for any info.

I went to our website sdsheriff.net and confirmed the information you said. We must now be hiring 18 year olds to staff the jails and courts. Ive been on 15 years as a deputy and never knew we lowered the age requirement for the jails. They are short staffed though so that doesnt surprize me.

They advertise everyday in the SDSU newspaper for both positions and make a point of the 18 y/o req for courts/detentions position. I can't imagine they hire many at that age... but it couldn't hurt to apply.
