I've completed my full application for the DC Police and was hoping to get in the March Class for the academy. I've heard that the DC Police frequently call people at the last minute. But I really have this burning desire to be a DC cop and was wondering if there were suggestions to who I could call to pester to see how my application was going?

First, I wouldn't hold my breath for the March class if you just finished your application. The background alone will take a few months. As far as pestering....I wouldn't call too often. Just call to check up. If they think you are qualified, they will contact you. LE jobs aren't just given overnight. There are steps that need to be taken and these steps take time. Be patient. If you meet their needs, they'll call you.

Do not call anyone to "Pester"! That would be your first and last mistake for not getting into LE! DC as any other department as a Hiring Process. I would suggest looking at their process to familiarize yourself with it so you know what to expect next. I will say this about DC Police. Expect the process to take anywhere from 6-9 months and the Academy can last anywhere from 6-8 months or even longer.

You are not going to make the March class since it is now March! Look at their Hirinh Processs. The application is not the only thing for you to do!

A "burning desire" to be a DC cop???? You dont hear that very often. I believe the whole process takes 9-12 months these days. I know people who waited 2-3 years due to the dept's incompetence.

Not that it matters as I'm going elsewhere but I completed the entire process with them at the end of December and have never heard anything at all.

Shane101...Who told you there was a March class? I am going through the process right now and I was wondering when the next class was? I just figured it was in April. Thanks.

I heard that the process was being speeded up right now. The reason wasn't very clear, but some of the people that I talked to in the application process at the other end of the table said that things were moving pretty fast. I'm not sure if it was because of the recent large numbers of terminations they had before Christmas or just a general labor shortage. I did hear there was a March class from one of the recruiters.

there were not a large number of terminations last year maybe fifty something. that is not excessive considering the size of the agency

Hey, I am in the MPDC academy right now. I am about 3 months in currently. If I can help you out, shoot me a PM or e-mail or ask on here and I'll do my best. A lot of people on here helped me when I was in the process of choosing departments. MPD is very strict on discipline from the time you are hired and your entire time on the force from what I hear. The academy is fairly disciplined. Mostly because of the scrutiny we are under being the nation's capital. There is an academy class planned once per month, however, sometimes it takes them a few months to build a class and therefore you may get hired in December (like me for example) and not start the residential training program (which is your first 5 weeks of "official" training) until mid January. You will still report to work and get paid you will just be doing odd details/jobs for the department instead of training. Once they have what they feel is enough for a class, they will begin residential training and you are good to go. I think the majority of instructors are top notch, of course you will have some that are not. Also, be prepared for the department to do things that perplex you as they do not make perfect sense. This mostly deals with scheduling and things of that nature. Just take it in stride. I don't have much time on at all but I like the department alot so far. Good luck.

I do like DC and I go there often. DC is a cool place to live if you like hanging out and being around a lot of important people. Also I think it would be a cool place because of all the law enforcement that you are surrounded with.
