Okay - here's my story.....

I am 32 years old. Married and two kids. I have worked in the same place for 10 years. I was on the HAZMAT Emergency Response Team for 4 years at that place of employment. Three years ago I came across the add for reserve sheriff deputy (volunteer) and put in for it. I was brought on and I LOVE it. Through this I was offered a Certified Animal Control job in the county. Now I have decided that I want to get into LE fulltime.

Now, when I was in highschool (17 yrs old) I shoplifted a $20 cb speaker. I did 80 hours of community service and paid fines. This scared me sh^&tless and I got into know trouble after that. I have had a few speeding tickets but none in the last 4 years.

So what do you think - am I wasting my time thinking I will be offered a job in the arena?

Well, I don't think you would have gotten on as a reserve if it was not okay. It all depends on the LEA.

If what you say is accurate you should have no problem. Being accepted as a Reserve is obviously a good sign and will reflect positively on your background from here on out as well.

Good luck.

You'll be fine. Apply away keep in mind alot of people dont get hired the 1st place they apply or their #1 choice. Shoplifting once as a teen is not a big deal. Nobody is looking for a perfect person everyone expects some flaws, but time between then and now is what is important sounds like it's been close to 10 yrs. Good Luck in your hunt

Great to hear. I appreciate your replies. Yeah, I remember when I interviewd for the reserve's I asked if I could explain about my retail fraud charge, because I was worried they would not hire me because of it. The captain cut me off and said not to worry and that it didn't even show up in my CCH. I thought that was kinda wierd but they did not seem at all concerned with it.

Thanks again.

I looked into secret service as far LE goes but didn't look like there was much there for me unless I move to Washington DC! As far as FEMA goes I have not. Does FEMA have something to offer in LE arena ?
