I posted this same question under "Ask a Cop" in the subcategory of "Hiring and Recruitment". I just spoke with an IPD officer I know and several other people, they all said that the interview is usually what gets people. If there are any Indianapolis PD officers on here with any ideas on how to prepare for the oral interview, I'd appreciate some insite. Officers from departments other then IPD, please feel free to provide possible ways to prepare, more information means a more informed decision.

Not to hijack this thread, but "Interview" techniues, etc are and have been discussed on this forum at least everyday. Do a search on this and you will see first hand the answer to your questions on Interviews.

I understand that, but I'm hoping that maybe an IPD officer will see this and be able to provide specific information directly related to IPD. That's the main reason I posted this question.

Hey IrishMP1....do yourself a favor and look into the "S.A.R.A. method of problem solving" before going to your IPD interview. *HINT-HINT* *COUGH-COUGH* ;)

I went through the IPD hiring process about 5 years ago. Did not complete the process due to be hired by my current department. I don't know if things have changed but I interviewed with one IPD officer and a video camera.
I do not remember the questions but they were not particularly difficult. Basic community questions and describing your experiences/qualifications. You have to be able to think on your feet because I was timed. I'm sure the questions have recycled numerous times since I interviewed but the premise should be the same. Study up on indianapolis and their particular style of law enforcement. Most if not all pd's are community based policing, so concentrate on that.
I guess I passed because I was given a date for the physical agility. Good Luck!
