I've decided to take the advice of a number of you here and hold off on posting more questions.
I came to Ask A Cop because I had sincere questions about what happened to me the night I was arrested, and about how you officers do your jobs. I've been upfront about my arrest and honest in my story. I want to thank those of you who gave informative and helpful answers to my recent string of questions. Although everything isn't laid to rest in my mind, I have indeed learned a lot. My favorite response was from the guy who said something like, "These questions remind me that, since I've been out of acedemy, I've forgotten how naive civilians are about what goes on in police work." I got the feeling that he would keep that in mind when dealing with the public in appropriate situations in the future. I hope that others of you might do so, too.
To those of you who gave funny responses - yeah, I already knew there were some real characters here from reading posts on other forums over the past months. A sense of humor probably helps pass the time in the patrol car. One guy even said somewhere, "Humor relaxes the public."
To those of you who used your posts on Ask A Cop to beat my butt ... well, I've learned things about police officers from you, too.
There is, of course, more to my case than I can go into here. If you knew more about the urine and HGN tests, and the other guy's white-ringed nostrils, you wouldn't hate me - well, not quite SO much, anyway. ;) :D
And don't think I've resisted listening to what you've said. Yeah, some of you have had a grand time being mean, but I'm too old to get snookered into petty insults back and forth. (For that, you have your playtime with XP. ) I HAVE listened to what all of you have said, ugly words or not, and digested it. I am coming away with a better understanding of drunk drivng, impaired driving, responsibility, etc. Last week on my night out with friends - two margueritas and lots of Mexican food - I walked to the restaurant. Trade-off: Walk at night past our local dealers and muggers (yes, they're here), or chance "I'm OK to drive" when perhaps I might not be. See? Your remarks didn't fall on deaf ears. :) And hopefully other people reading this will get the message, too. That's the whole point of my being open about what happened.
The Ask A Cop response I disliked the most was from the guy who said, "Why bother making your story pubic? People already know not to drink and drive, and they do it anyway." I disliked that response - because he's right. And that's sad.
So, I've pretty much gotten most of what I came to Ask A Cop for, and now's a good time to bug out. I won't be leaving - I've been reading here for quite a while, and I really like some of the threads. But I'll prolly give you guys a break and stop pestering you with questions - at least for the time being. Maybe I'll go back and hound the EMT's some more - they haven't heard from me in a while. :D
Thank you all for your time, responses, and enlightenment.
Now, for those so inclined ... There's the "Reply" button .... GO!
