Well we have our own little slang for various words that we use in our interactions with Officers.Sometimes our words are misconstrued in the public setting and the word is processed in their lingo,ours means something different.
An example of what happened a couple of months ago;
I had been ordered over for overtime at the last minute,another 8 hours is what I was stuck with.So when I completed that 16 hour shift I had a couple of hours sleep before I had to get up and go back to work.
I went to the store that I always stop at for coffee on the way to work.It is a little store and always full of people..I had just gotten out of the shower,my hair was wet and I had overtime bags under my eyes.(No amount of makeup concealer could hid them.)
So the cashier that I see everyday at the store said to me while there are others standing around. "hey ****(insert my name in those symbols)you look real tired today,rough night last night?"
I answer"You would look like this if you were banged for 16 hours."
People in the store stopped what they were doing and looked at me with smirks on their faces for what seemed like eternity.
The cashier said something to the effect of "wow are you lucky!"
With that remark from the cashier,it went down hill from there.A chain reaction.A customer standing next to me asked me if I was free for the weekend.Several others commented on my stamina.Another one asked if I had used furry handcuffs.The comments went on and on.
Our slang takes on a whole new meaning in public.
Where I live,banged means;
Correctional Officer=Had to do forced overtime.
Public=Had sex.
What is not great for you,makes you look great to others.
Any words that you want to share?????

"Bang" or "Banged" here in NY means to call in to work sick, as in "I banged in yesterday" or "I'm gonna bang in tomorrow."

How about
Crack the door ,steel, cage or when we get forced Ot it is Frozen,
When we bang an inmate it means to write one up or charge one with something....
Along the lines of the original post
The LT calls you on the radio and tells you inmate smith is acting strange BLOW him.
Hopefully you will pull out your alcometer.

Damn,
I don't and will never use the word "blow" around an inmate. I work a County Facility in California and "Banged" (like NY guy) is call in sick. When we call in sick, first day comes out of Vacation time, second day out of sick. So it is AT LEAST 2 days ..."bang bang". Bye the way, you single? We could both bang in and bang for at least an hour.
Here we use:
J-Cat = Unstable crazy inmate
Noise check = Be quiet
Rest your neck = Shut up and $uck my Di#&
Roll it up = get your $hit together - housing change
etc, etc...

Here the i/m's can get drink mix powder in plastic containers on commissary. When they are empty they use them to pass stuff between cells. Those are called "Cadillacs". One of my all time favorite ways to pass time is to bust Cadillacs. Wait until I hear someone passing one and go stomp the ***** out of it. They hate that. It's the sport of kings.

We are not very creative in some of ours:
new boot- new CO
baby raper- well..........
chalk, hooch- homemade booze
bluebird- chain bus (most of ours are made by Bluedbird)
rolled- inmate got sent to seg
gassed- sprayed with OC
chunked on- had something nasty thrown on you (urine, feces, etc.)
The general public around here has grown up with prisons here since 1848 so they are mostly CO families or inmate families, so our slang is normal speech except for the college kids.
