can anyone tell me why they issue a list number for nypd and why is it important?

It's like your SSN! NYPD does not issue the List #'s, the civil service agency that they use issues them on your test score. This list # is your ticket through the process.

Yeah also its NOT totally based on score alone. IF they do it the same as 13 yrs ago whenI took it, they group people in bands, based on scores, i.e. 93.00-105.00 , 92.99-88.00 and based on that you might be top in your band with the LOWEST score and be right next to someone who scored higher.; I got a 98.8 1 qyestion wrong and my list number was 14000
Yeah you read correctly 14 thousand. and they even got to CALLING me fore the job which I turned down, 5 years later....

i got a 91.764% on the test and my list # is 228, yes two hundred twenty eight. i know there a re a ton of people tha scored better than me... how did i get such a good list number??

I scored a 98.8 and my list number was over 11,000. ANd when Housing and Transit merged, I got bumped BACK to 14,000...
I STILL GOT CALLED... Turned em down though..
