What are the requirements for out-of-state LEO's if they would like to get on a MA PD? Is there an "equivalency" exam they could take to become MA certified, without going through a full MA Police Academy? Do the requirements differ if one wants a part-time spot with a small PD or a full time spot with a bigger PD? Do the requirements differ for Civil Service Depts vs. non-Civil Service PD's? Who oversees/administers this stuff? Or is it all done locally by individual Dept's? Anywhere on-line to visit for more info on this topic?

Some city's/towns differ from civil service. Alot of city's use the civil service process and pick within every two years. Towns on the other hand have a selection board, or "selectman" these are basically the people who you have to get the approval from. I am a Police Cadet right now and the city I work for hires off of the civil service list. If you are looking for a "lateral transfer" make sure that the department that you wish to go to accepts them and you are not going to have to go through the whole academy process all over again. Alot of city's and towns that accept the transfer usually will not send you into another academy as long as you are already certified in all fields.
I know that www.mass.gov has the civil service process and I believe you can print out a list of all civil service towns as well as non-civil service. Another web site to check out is www.masscops.com if no one answers you here you can check with them as well.

Good Luck
