I'm thinking of possibly moving to El Paso and someone told me this story-
El Paso is a polluted city; so polluted in fact that when the wind shifts and blows from Mexico, they sound a civil defense type alarm and you have to close your windows..This can not possibly be true, could it?

A friend of mine has been going to med school there for about a year & a half.... she has never once mentioned anything like that.
I'll ask her about it though. :)

Sorry a reply took so long. I'm a lifelong resident here in the "Sun City," so please don't believe what is presented in the Kill Bill movies! ha ha That urban legend 'bout "smog alerts" [or whatever] is not true; however, a "brownish-orange" murkiness sometimes lingers over Juarez and drifts over to our side. Winds tend to push it south / southeast, so it's not too big of a problem. They burn tires by the ton on that side and open fires commonly rid their poor citizenry of stockpiling trash, so we end up dealing with average amount of smog for sister cities of similar sizes. I used to lived in California, so I feel it doesn't really compare to that level of haze (as long as you stay far away from the border itself). I'll take the smog anyday with our YEAR-'ROUND-GOLFING WEATHER!!! We're a humble place, but you'll get used to if if you can give it a chance.
