All I want to say about this is they should have just played the "improper attire" card instead of saying the shirt was "protesting." That deals with the 1st, while improper attire just deals with her utter lack of respect for such events.
Hindsight is 20/20 however. I probably would have panicked and clocked her. :o

They also took out people wearing pro troop shirts so it was an attire issue to begin with. It is a formal event and these people should have treated it as such.

agreed,
but they were also putting an early stop to what could have broken out as a "disruptive" situation, which i heard earlier IS a crime.
was an arrest warranted, i dunno, but it was reported earlier that she was released without charges, sounds like a sticky situation, that was handled properly, but was addressed in the improper words, but again, i dunno. :)
but what ****es me off, was the demo's standing ovation and ****ty grins when Mr Pres mentioned ssi reform, i dont care if you dont like someone or dont agree with them, but you better damn well show adult behavior, especially to a position like the presidency, just shows how childish and immature our elected distinguished ladies and gentlemen of congress are. talk about a bunch of third graders.

You should watch Parliment over in England if you want to see a bunch of 3rd graders. They nearly get in fist fights.

Apparantely her attire, according the Capitol Police, was not enough for their intervention remove Mrs. Sheehan from the building. It's political attire anyways; like a Republican elephant earring or a "Stay the Course" pin. It's ridiculous to treat this as a priority rather than keep a keen eye for REAL troublemakers. I disagree with that woman on several issues but this is ridiculous.

One of the reasons for the removal of all people with signs and writings on their clothing is to keep the focus on the topic of the evening.
People with support our troops were detained also.

Cindy Sheehan is a disgrace to the memory of her son. She's a media hound, and is simply trying to keep her 15-minutes of fame going. She is pathetic.

2 people were removed, only one arrested.
Associated Press
Published February 2, 2006
WASHINGTON -- Capitol Police dropped a charge of unlawful conduct against anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan on Wednesday and offered apologies to her and a congressman's wife after they were ejected from President Bush's State of the Union address for wearing T-shirts with war messages.
Police removed Sheehan and Beverly Young, wife of Rep. C.W. "Bill" Young (R-Fla.), from the visitors gallery Tuesday night. Sheehan was charged with a misdemeanor; Young was not arrested.
The unlawful conduct charge against Sheehan was being dropped, said Deputy House Sergeant of Arms Kerri Hanley. And in a private meeting Wednesday, Capitol Police Chief Terrance Gainer apologized, Rep. Young told reporters.
"They were operating under the misguided impression that the T-shirt was not allowed," Hanley said.
Sheehan's T-shirt made reference to the number of soldiers killed in Iraq: "2,245 Dead. How many more?" Young's shirt had the message: "Support the Troops--Defending Our Freedom."
Dunno...from what I heard she was only arrested after she was asked, then refused to leave.

My apologies to the Dogs and dog people.
I still don't know why they removed her from the Congress, she fits right in with all the pinko liberal tree hugging left wing socialist nazis.
I'd have simply put her on the Kenedy staff and been done with it rather than remove her...
I mean, she might have bitten one of the capitol police officers...

Well, she was just down in Argentina with Cesar Chavez, or whatever the communist leadership is down there. She hugged em and gave the Argentines a speech about how she stands against the "Empire called America and the Regieme of George W. Bush"
... Isn't that treason?

The House Speaker sets the tone for both the protocol and the dress of the attendees. If he didn't want political banners, protests or placards, that was his call. Sheehan got arrested when she thought she could resist the officer telling her to leave. Notice how the other t-shirt wearer just left when advised to? Thats the difference. Want to protest? Go across the street and protest in the park like all of the others. Don't try to get free air time while the President is performing his congressionally mandated duty.

It only becomes treason when you have taken an allegence to this country. Obviously Sheehans son did, but Mom doesn't have the same fortitude or values as her hero son, God rest his soul!

i think they should have left her alone. Waited for her to cause a disturbance, then remove her.

She created a disturbance by wearing the Tee Shirt, and not leaving when ask to.
djack16

The tee-shirt stated a fact about the war and was a silent political statement. The disturbance can be blamed on an the officers not being properly briefed about the rules and overreacting to these two ladies' political attire.
I have sympathy for her loss but she is off the deep end on many things.

It is a blatant show od disrespect to attend a FORMAL gathering in any type of t-shirt with a slogan on it. It wasn't a ball game, it was a time honored, Constitutionally mandated event. Either show some dignity and respect, or stay home.

I hope that she runs AND wins in CA. She would be a joke. Those who voted for would be considered jokes. Anything she said would be a joke. Why in the world did the media ever give her one bit of attention is beyond me. They love leftists (one of theor own), I know, but she sounds so ..... stoned everytime I have heard her open her mouth.

I agree. Ironically her removal caused more of a disturbance than the dopey shirt she had on.

She has become a poster girl for the liberal left, who don't have the guts to say what they're telling her to say. She can't put two sentences together without a coach.

Cindy Sheehan, the anti-war activist whose son was killed in the Iraq war, was arrested with three other protesters in New York on Monday after a rally with women from Iraq.
Sheehan became a central figure in the U.S. anti-war movement last summer after she camped outside President George W. Bush's Texas ranch and has been arrested at least two other times at protests.
On Monday, she had joined a delegation of women from Iraq at the rally at the United Nations, urging the United Nations to help prevent civil war in Iraq.
About 20 protesters went to the U.S. mission to the United Nations to deliver a petition with 60,000 signatures seeking an end to the war. Nobody from the mission received them so Sheehan and three other American women sat down in front of the building, refused to leave, and were arrested.
A police spokesman said they were expected to be released later on Monday.
The Iraqi women plan to deliver a petition to the White House on Wednesday. Earlier they held a news conference at U.N. headquarters calling for the United States to withdraw its forces.
Entisar Mohammad Ariabi, a pharmacist at Baghdad's Yarmook Teaching Hospital, wept as she told reporters of the hardships experienced by Iraqi women.
"U.S. occupation has destroyed our country, made it into a prison," she said. "Schools are bombed, hospitals are bombed."
"We thank you, Mr. Bush, for liberating our country from Saddam. But now, go out! Please go out!" she said.

I don't think she expects to bring 60,000 signatures to the UN and have our problems solved.
I'm sure she is aware these problems are centuries old. I think she's just trying to make a point that not everyone is supporting this anymore.

It is almost sad that cindy thinks she is actually doing saying things that make any sense. She is just a tool/poster child for the media. they don't care what she says, just that she can be shown on tv.
What little I have heard her say ...... well, she seems more than a little lost. Kind of like the town idiot who has been given the microphone at the state fair that rambles on for 2 hours in front of a crowd thinking that she is important.
At one time, she was considering to throw her (small) hat in the ring for a senator's seat. That!!!!!!!!! would have been embarassing to watch. I wish she had done it, for all the world to see.

The 60,000 signatures number is laughable.
Sounds like Sheehan had an illegal gathering there on the steps and got what she had coming to her. She's doing this to get the word out though.
