Question about ticket for NY cops

Got a damn inspection ticket on Monday. It was due in December and I forgot all about it, doh! :(

Anyway, the cop told me that they're pretty good about throwing the tickets out if you get the vehicle inspected within a few days of the ticket. I got the ticket Monday and got the car inspected today (Wednesday). Cop told me to just mail the ticket in with the proof of inspection.

My question is, what box should I check on the back of the ticket? Guilty, Not Guilty or Guilty with explanation?

I have no problem paying the ticket because I'm a moron and forgot about the sticker, but if they're willing to throw it out - I'll take the break! What should I do?

Well, since it's not posted in a restricted area, I'll give you the benefit or experience until somebody otj in NYC wants to tell you the same thing:

Exactly two years ago, I parked legally (because it was a Saturday) around the corner from the facility where I was undergoing the physical fitness testing with the LE agency I was testing for before finding my current gig. Came back to find a summons for expired inspection sticker. Mailed in copy of new inspection sticker after having it inspected the very next day along with a copy of the entrance ticket to the LE testing facility explaining where I was while my uninspected car was tagged. Verdict: Guilty. There was even an explanation that inspection subsequent to a summons for expired tags is not a defense to the summons, which I knew, but figured nothing to lose trying. You might be thinking about "fixers" for equipment violations like a burned out headlight, which do get tossed if you submit proof that you fixed it within 24 hours.

Your best bet is parkingticket.com...supposedly, they charge you 50% of anything they save you by getting it reduced or tossed and no charge if they can't, but I've never used them myself. Good luck.

I'm not sure how applicable that information is to my situation. I don't live in the city. NYC, Buffalo and Rochester are DMV TVB areas, tickets generally aren't reduced, thrown out, etc. in TVBs.

This is a municipal court, tickets are thrown out and reduced all the time when you appear in person. The only reason I'm asking how to go about this is I've never heard of them being thrown out by mail, as the officer stated to me.

If I have to appear, I'll just plead guilty. It's not worth my time to stay up all day waiting around in traffic court just to get a inspection ticket thrown out.

I'm not. I have an EMT sticker above my inspection/registration stickers and was coming off a 34-hour shift so I had my uniform on, guy didn't care.

The city cops here write everyone and anyone. They've written drivers of our ambulances on numerous occasions for stupid sh it like "failure to signal lane change" or "failure to obey traffic control device" when they didn't come to a complete stop at a stop sign.

It's pretty bad when the Troopers are calling the city cops dicks. ;)

An inspection violation is not an equipment violation (sec375). So you can't just get your car inspected two days later and expect the summons to be voided. I would plead not guilty. see the judge show him what that you got the vehicle inspected. he/she might just dismiss it. Or see the LEO who wrote you the summons and get it reduced to a tail light violation. If he agrees to that. To bad they don't give EMSguys breaks for minor V&T viol where you are. We do, Because we know most of them. Only the A-holes get written.

My advised is to plead not guilty and take your chances with the officer in court. Also, don't check the supporting deposition section on the ticket. If you do this the officer is going to have to write a report explaining the reasons for the stop on detail. I'm a cop and I hate it when somebody makes me do extra paper work. Make sure you bring all documentation showing you took care of the problem. Good Luck!

I just mailed it in with a letter stating what the officer told me. If I have to pay, I have to pay - no real problem. I know I could get it dropped if I went to court, but I don't have time to stay up all day and sit around in court.

A co-worker got one the week before me by the Sheriff's Office and it was $230. My girlfriend got a speeding ticket on the way to work up here and it was $425 for 9 over.

I forgot I posted this thread - get this: I get a letter yesterday saying that the ticket's been dismissed because the officer wrote the court date for a court holiday.

Sweet, didn't cost me a damn thing anyway! :D
