Does anybody have any information on any West Michigan reserve officer or deputy positions. I am a 20 year old college student who wants to gain experience with a LE agency while still going to school full time. Ottawa County Sheriff, Hudsonville Police, Grand Haven Public Safety, Holland Police, and Kent County Sheriff all have these positions. By the way these positions are armed but have no legal authority. If anybody has any information besides what is on the websites it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello, I am a Kent County Sheriff Reserve Deputy, we are a fully uniformed, armed, and paid department, our program is developing into a great Reserve Program. Its been around for 30 plus years but only recently have we began develope a strong training program and a great reputation. In a couple years I could see us some limited citation power, (parking tickets and the sort) maybe more. We just hired 13 deputies, and they are in our training academy right now, recently we have been putting on one academy a year. I don't know about next year though, because we just hired so many. www.kentreserves.org Let me know if you have any more Q's.

Ionia County Sheriff Reserves are hiring also. We are not a paid reserves but it is a great program and highly supported by the department. You are supplied uniforms and purchase your own belt gear, gun and boots. We do lots of events such as the fair, birthday bash/foxfest, I96 speeday and such. The deps love having us around so it is no problem getting in a car for patrol duties. If you would like any info let me know and I will hook ya up.

I was a reserve in Hudsonville back in the day. It was a good program, but b/c of such a small city, it was really boring.
