I am a police driver's instructor preparing for a regional in-service. I am looking for new ideas. My facility is a large paved open area (no streets) that I have been given permission to use near an airport. Course diagrams or suggestions would be helpful.

the NHTSA manual has some good track diagrams. i have the ones we use measured out, but the principles in the NHTSA tracks are pretty much the same. look in chapter 8A through 8I for the diagrams.

Set up wet and dry skid pads. Lets the student discover how the car behaves as the vehicle approaches and passes the tires' limit of adhesion.

I have recently assumed the FTO supervisor position. Our agency currently has no formal emergency or pursuit driving training. I am looking for suggestions on training programs to train my FTOs. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

that's a lawsuit waiting to happen. unless you are a certified instructor, it'll be hard to teach anyone where it would do any good. i'd suggest getting in touch with the oklahoma highway patrol. they have an instructor course that is top notch, and it's completely free. you stay in the OHP recruit barracks, so no lodging fees. only thing you have to cover are meals and wear and tear on the car. i forget the guy who runs it. i've got his cell phone # somewhere. just call OHP and ask about their driving school at burns flat.
