go ahead and put the blue lights back on their patrol cars or even go red/blue like they wanted to do and heres why....

1. the sps were giving a lot of heat and forced to remove the light . But many downstate ny police depts have blue lights to the rear of their lightbars some of them are The Nassau PD, The village of Montgomery PD and now the new lightbars of the NYPD are red/blue combo. Either the law is the law or if downstate pds can do as they please then why not the rest of the state.

2. The blue is just seen from a much further distance at night then red. If you do not trust me drive thru NC and Virginia at night. I when visiting family can spot a NC trooper at night at a far greater distance than you can spot the reds.

3. The blue light helps distinguish the car as a emergency vehicle.
The mcso recently set their new bars to flash red/amber to the rear and thats fine the amber can be seen further than red the only problem is if you have to many amber lights flashing with the reds they will wash out the red and then as drivers approach from the rear they will wonder is that a emergency vehicle ahead of me or a tow truck.
4. the volunteer firefighters with all due respect to tradition can and should be switched to green as a "courtesy light" color.
yes thats the "EMS" color but lets be honest the public has no clue if its a green or blue light and there are not enough vollie ems people that even use those green lights to matter.

5. the newer led bars have the ability to switch colors from all red/ all blue to a combo. The Florida hp did a long study of why this was the most effective emergency light combo for their patrol cars.
6. the public in NY is not going to be confused because the blue lights would be rear facing.

the double standard just seems strange if downstate can do as they please then the rest of the state can as well or the law needs to be changed.

Albany PD uses blue in the back also, along with most other town and village PDs in the Capital Region.

Ever take an EVOC class from Bob Faugh? He says the exact same things you do here.

The NYPD has LED Vector lightbars, but they are still Red and White.

Yonkers has had red/blue strobes for years, and Westchester County has a few blue lights in its light bars now.
