Hello,
I am currently looking at relocation to the St.Louis area for family reasons and am trying to find out some good info about the St. Louis County Police Department. I was an officer in Charleston, SC previously and am currently a federal agent. I would really appreciate some info, such as quality of life, how is the working schedule, equipment, chances for promotion, etc...along with any advice about the hiring process.
Thank you very much,
Scotofc.

Well I am no expert, first there is a long Application portion, once you get through that there is a written/physical, a video taped interview portion, a polygraph, and then if they want you...
STL county is pretty cool place to live, very diverse and large. Of course you got the city of STL which is pretty cool, and all the area munies that surround the city are cool to, but there are its problem areas. Like the city of Clayton where the main HQ is is real up-pity up, and then just down the road like Wellston where the Academy is or Berkley, are real Stink-holes.
I once tested for the STL Co. PD, and made it up to the ride-a-long, and a bunch of guys told me I would be in the next academy as long as my background and poly were good. Nothing in my background kept me out and the Polygrapher treated me like a godddd damn crimianl. But I was young and had no expierience, oh well. Know some guys that work for the county, and they like it pretty well. Hope that answers any ?'s....

I don't know much about their application process but their pay and benefits are amoung some of the best in the country and well they should be as St. Louis is usually in the top 3 most violent cities in the country. I believe it has even had the honor of having the highest murder rate for a couple of years, at least per capita of people. I personally don't think that for a large City that St. Louis has much to offer compared to many other large cities in the country. Want my opinion, stay in SC.

I think its a great department to work for. I've been a County officer for 8 years. The schedules are 8 hour shifts and rotate all 3 shift's every 28 days. The command staff is great to work for and they back their officers. Plus you can live anywhere in Missouri or Illinois.

Late response, sorry. Go to www.stlco.com and then to the police website. All the info you want there. I've been very fortunate to serve with St. Louis County. Good luck!

How long do you think it will be before I hear back after submitting my application? I submitted it on May 9th. I have a clean background and hope to join via the open enrollment program. If I make it, what attire should I wear to interview? I can wear my suit. What preparations should I make beforehand
Update: I got the letter today in the mail. They are in the process of reviewing my application and will contact me in the near future. That made me feel good.
Thanks,
Karl
Karl,
If you submitted your application on May 8th, most likely you will get a spot in the january class of 07. It took me around 5 months to complete the entire process. I think they are going to start PT for the jan class starting in august. I just got into the June class coming up. I started as a 911 dispatcher and decided while i was down there to try to get into the academy. I hope you get in though and i wish the best of luck.

Anyone know if STLCOPD take any lateral Transfers? May have asked this question before already. Hoping 6 years exp. would mean something.
