Anyone with any insight on Tallahassee PD? (Other than what is provided on talgov.com)
Good department? Off duty details? Opportunity for movement (lateral and advancement)
How difficult is the hiring process?
Thanks for any info

TPD is a good large dept for the area. They are a strict dept discipline wise. Though they have good officers, and the dept does take care of, and pay their officers very well. The few people I know that work there enjoy it. They put alot of recruits through the academy, and have a very tough FTO program. Overall I have never heard anything bad of the officers. A good agency to work for.
Personally I don't care too much for them because of their no tobacco policy. You have to be tobacco free for 6mo or a year before applying. Then you can't use it at all after hire. They randomly test for it and you can be fired for it. To me that's a bunch of BS but it is their choice. Not giving up my cigars :D
Hope that helps.

no swim test, no PAt test, all you have to do is pass a physical. I have quite a few friends that work for them and if you can put up with the politics (like in any department) than you should enjoy it there. They do sponsor a few through the academy but that is very competitive, They do however hire quite a few while they are still in the academy. Oscar Brannon the recruiter there is a great guy and any other questions you have i would suggest sending him an email. He can also answer questions about the academy since he is also an instructor there.

Those that responded, thank you for the insight.
How stringent is the background investigation? 10 years as a LEO in a high-crime area you get lots of complaints (none sustained though)

Had Brannon as an instructor on more than one occasion. He is very passionate about his agency. He can be a bit dull at times, but means well. He is a great POC for TPD and will go out of his way to help you get the info you need.

TPD takes very good care of and greatly supports their officers during complaints and investigations. They receive a fair share of complaints and such. As long as your ducks are in a row they should welcome you. Good Luck.
