Why would you take a job in corrections when you can be police officer for the NYPD? It's the same pay....

Because the NYPD is a joke, that's why.

Plus, base pay for DOCS after a year is $34,742, but that doesn't include pre-shift briefing, shift differential, security enforcement pay and uniform allowance. That brings your salary up to $37,781.66 or $38,981.66 if you work downstate. This is better than NYPD pay.

If you want to be a PEACE officer, then I guess it's o.k. I know a bunch of NYPD officers that make over $50 a year. 1st year with overtime and special off duty jobs....If I'm going to get into LE, that's not would I would want to do,,,,getting feces thrown at you and uring in your face isn't my idea of LE.....

Wow, $50K? Boy, that sure goes far in NYC!

Like it or not, corrections is law enforcement. Some people have no desire to be a police officer. I posted this exam announcement for the benefit of anyone interested in taking this exam, whatever their reasons may be. If you don't want to be a CO, don't take the test.

Also, you might want to change your profile. I seriously doubt that you're a Sheriff at 27 years old. There's a good chance that you're a Sheriff's Deputy, but I seriously doubt you've been elected Sheriff at your age.

That's better than $38 a year don't you think??. Corrections is a state security guard, call it what you want...If you don't want to be a police officer, then don't. But I never met anyone who was dying to be a CO...Where are you going on $38 a year in NYC or anywhere in the area? If you have 2 incomes and a good debt to income ratio, your fine. About the profile, everyone uses abreviations for their title, I don't think taking shots at my lack of descrption is necessarry. Maybe your just ****ed because you were fired from your dispatch for " doing nothing wrong", or that your BI investigator was a dick in your BI investigation for NYS corrections....I don't think your Police material, atleast in NY.......your better off in SC....they hire anyone, your past won't follow you there.

What the Hell are you talking about? Yes, my BI was a dick for corrections but that doesn't matter - I still was offered the job. I didn't post it because I wanted the job, I posted it for the benefit of others who browse this site. I don't know what your problem is with corrections officers, but save your comments for someone who cares.

No, $50K in NYC is not better than $38K upstate. Perhaps "cost of living" is a new concept to you.

The problem is your comments...your always on this site degrading and claiming others are wrong.......You put your 2 cents where it's not needed. I think your one of the people on this site applying for LE anywhere in the world, by anyone who will take you. Why didn't you take the Job???. I hear from a good source that you were infact not offered the job. Nice try !!! I don't have a problem with corrections officers, I have problems with people like you, wannabe's......cost of living is what you make of it..i guess a NLE dispatcher in a small town doesn't know much about money.....

Well, whatever you may think about my comments, this is not the place to discuss them. This thread is for the benefit of O.com members who are interested in taking the CO exam. Don't want to take it, don't post here. Got a problem with me? PM me.
