His life if he keeps it up or his freedom should he hit and kill someone at that speed ..... Here at that speed he would likely loose his license for 3 years.

Not sure about NC. Minors in TN have restricted & intermediate DL's. If they have some serious violations then they risk losing their DL. I'm sure someone from NC will chime in shortly.

All depends on the judge. Your friend could have gone to jail for 15 over the speed limit or above 80mph. I would talk to the DA who will be handling court that day or talk to a lawyer, or both.

I would tell your friend to get a lawyer...

I'm not a cop, but when I see people driving like this, I certainly wish I was, and in an unmarked car. ;)

Ah, to be young and stupid again. I sincerely hope that your "friend" loses his license until he's mature enough to be behind the wheel of that four wheeled weapon. 85 in a 55 may sound okay, but think of it this way: There is significantly more distance required to stop that vehicle in a pucker factor incident. Manuverability is also affected. Your "friend" should consider himself lucky that he even made it home. Bless the officer that popped him and give your friend hell from all of us at O.com forums.

My friend did 75 in a 25 and got off with 100 hours of community service and no dl suspension.

100 hrs of community service I wouldn't consider "getting off."

You have to think Josh that when your friend gets nailed again for speeding this first 75 in 25 will be seen by the judge and more than likely, a more severe punishment will come on the next ticket(s).
