I live in VA right now but I am thinking of moving to FL to become a police officer? Is anyone familiar with FL? I am looking to a dept that's pays well, in central or northern fl, and moderate crime rates. Thanks soooo much.

Hey, check out Tallahassee Police Department.. great pay, officer start 38 to top out 60k.. plus cost of living is still reasonable.. unlike most of florida.. most areas are good, but you have the problem areas to have fun in.. I went to school there at FSU and did some ride a longs with TPD.
However if you are not Certified in VA, then that changes things.. You will most likely have to pay your way through a 5 months FL academy then apply.

Cops in the panhandle will make the least money "generally" but the cost of living is fairly cheap as well. I am in the panhandle and my dept starts off at 30,000. You can buy a house from 60-80,000. I used to live in FT lauderdale and I believe there local agencies pay around 40,000 starting and then topping off at around 60,000 with in 5-10 depending on the agency. Houses rang from the 200,000 dollar range. I am am wrong on that please correct me. As far a central Fl goes I honestly dont know much as far as real estate goes but I know that orlando has some really nice outlying cities that pay well, and I am sure it isnt as expensive as FT Lauderdale.
Hope this helps.
