I am looking to start applying to florida agencies but I have some questions regarding the written exams. Do all agencies require the CJ-BAT? I was looking into FHP... and for FWC it looks like you need to take to exams the CJ-BAT and the F-BAT. For what is worth I have a 4 year degree. Does this exempt me from any of this?

Most of the time, its the Academy, not the agency that is requiring the FBAT. Additionally, many will also need TABE scores. Having a degree should exempt you from the TABE, but likely not the FBAT. FYI, a girl in my class had just completed her masters, she had a horriable time in the academy and ended up failing the state exam. Its a diffrent kind of curriculium, learning, and testing. Just a heads up.

The FWC requires the TABE test.

do not sweat the fbat or cjbat. I believe they are the same test. But any way, that was one of the easiest test i have ever taken.

DCAMP,

Don't sweat any of the written exams.. TABE exam is going away, you are exempt by your degree anyway.. I had to take the CJBAT to get into my academy a while back. I think a passing score is 70%.

So are you trying to get sponsored by an agency or already Certified? I tried very hard but never was selected to be sponsored with several agencies. Like you, I also have a B.S degree and good work experience. I put myself through the academy and didnt receive a paycheck for those 4+ months. It was tough but well worth it.

Good Luck,
Steve

sco0437,

I am just getting started as far as the process is concerened. It would be great to be sponsored to go to the academy but if that doesn't work out I am prepared to do it myself. Which academy did you attend? Which agency are you with? What is the process like to get into the academy?

Thanks
David

I went to the academy at Palm Beach Community College.. In order to get accepted into the academy I had to complete the following steps.. background-including voice stress, physical agility, interview, physical exam/drug screen.. I worked for a few yrs in South Florida as a local Officer then made the mistake of moving up north.. But now in the process of moving back to Central Florida, as my FDLE Certs are still valid.

My best advise is to apply,apply,apply.. being a white, male I was at an extreme disadvantage.. that is just a fact.. myself I got upset, because I made it through the entire process, including meeting the Chief at like 4 diff. depts but wasnt hired. I'm talking about getting sponsored here..

But once you are Certified.. you can do 1-2 yrs at basically any dept, keep yourself clean.. then apply and get hired almost anywhere..
