Does anyone out there have experience using the internet to catch sexual predators? I know this is a common tool being used lately and it seems to be effective, however I don't know of anyone locally doing this type of work to speak with. I work in a jurisdiction which seems to have more than it's fair share of sexually oriented offenders and would like to do some proactive work to combat this problem. I am interested in setting up a program using chat rooms and the like and would appreciate some insight from anyone who has done the same. What kind of equipment is used, documentation methods, legal issues, and whatever else I can get my hands on would be greatly appreciated. I am very interested in getting this up and running so I need to do my homework before taking it to the powers that be for approval. Feel free to PM or email me with any assistance. Thank You in advance.

Contact Sgt. Rob Dauberman st the S. Bloomfield Ohio PD, he set up a good unit with no cost, and was catching people right and left. Xenia Ohio PD is also a good one to contact.

My name is Danny and I work for the Office of Criminal Justice Services. As an ex-Xenia officer, I know the Xenia experts quite well (Det. Wilson and Det. Barlow) They have done this type of investigation for many years and many departments look to them as a professional model to copy. This type of investigation requires proper procedures, so speaking with them is a great start. Additionally, they will allow officers to visit with them, and see first hand how it is done.
Also, I am currently commissioned in the city of Westerville, and we have a great group here that does this full time also. I can arrange for you to speak with them as well.
Lastly, the Ohio Crime Prevention Association will be conducting training on this soon. I know one date is March 16 (1200-1600) at the DPS building in Columbus. The Xenia detectives are conducting this training. Times and dates have not be offically posted, but the March date is confirmed.
Contact me directly for any other help you may need.

Thanks for the contact info. I am currently running this up the proverbial flag pole to see if any of the bosses salute. If they buy off on my idea I'll get in touch with some of these people. DA, I have a good friend that works for Westerville PD and have been meaning to ask him about their unit, I hear good things about it.

DA if you can get a contact number for the Ohio Crime Prevention Association Training or have any other info on it please let me know. I just looked for their website but it's under construction. Do you have any idea what the tuition is like? If it's not too much I may just pay for it myself (I seem to do alot of that these days).
