Hey troops, I was just wondering how the supposed "10 year plan" was coming along?

Supposedly it is the plan for them to become a "state police". I have heard in some parts of the state (where the sheriff can't handle the road due to money) they have stepped in.

I hope that is not the case. The Highway Patrol should stay exactly as that. You know as well as I do that under the ORC, The SHERIFF, not the Highway Patrol, is the leading law enforcement official in the entire state. OSP already has their official duties delegated to them under the ORC, just as we. I hope that isn't tampered with. :( :mad:

*nod* that sounds like a disaster to me too. I mean how could they fit through doors if they suddenly became state police....their heads are big enough now! :eek:



In all seriousness....nobody likes the OSHP.......at least from a motorist standpoint....and they tend to support the sheriffs more than not. I don't know how the OSP will manage to pull that one off after being trounced as badly as they have in the past on the same issue.

I just don't see any need for a state police force...do you?

Not down here, they don't. The relationship between our S.O. and OSP is not very cordial right now, for reasons I won't disclose on a public forum.

You figure in the built up counties such as the likes of Summit and Cuyahoga there really is no need just for the fact that almost the whole county is incorperated and has their own PD. The old post in Cuyahoga Falls is now a used car lot.

I've never heard of any kind of official plan to convert the OSP to a State Police. There have been plenty of rumors in the past about it, and it has its supporters within the Flying Donuts (hehe...sorry Troopers, just a little jab in fun :D ), but I just don't see it happening.

Well, just because the county sheriff is delegated to mainly court supporting activities and a few other things, does not mean we need a state police force.

The county and the OSP get along fine around here....but I can certainly see 'territory' issues if they became a state police force...not only for the sheriffs but for local PDs also.

I think the change that gave them jurisdiction on requested backing up other officers was what WAS needed and I think it solved the problem that pointed toward the State PD idea.
