Hi,
I live about 5 houses away from the entrance to a pretty big city park. Lots of joggers and runners use the park, but to get to it, they run down the little side streets around my house to get to it. The problem is, they run on the street, instead of the sidewalk. I know it talks about how running on asphalt is supposedly easier on your knees, etc, in running magazines, but a lot of the guys you see running are clearly not in good enough shape to be doing that much running, that it could hurt their knees.

So really it boils down to, I have a problem with these guys running in the street. Last night driving home at around 6:00, there were a group of them running about 3 wide, taking up a decent chunk of the road, a residential road, so its not that wide. I also almost didnt see another one coming around a curve in the road (he didnt have any reflective clothing), and I had to swerve and break (no other cars around) to miss the guy.

So my question is this. Whats my best course of action? Are these people committing any kind of offense? Is it worth calling the police operator/community line/whatever, or should I just start leaning on the horn?

Thanks for any advice you guys can give.

I think there is a pretty big difference between running on blacktop and concrete, especially if you are not in great shape to begin with, but that

Hmm, I didnt know there really was a difference. I dont run much myself, Im more of a cyclist and hockey player.

I should add, on the first tuesday of every month, they have a sort of gathering on my block. Windsprints and intervals around the block, that sort of thing. Day to day, its alright I guess, its easy enough to just avoid them, slow down, do whatever, but these monthly things just get ridiculous with these guys congregating in the road. I guess Im just a little peeved, thats all.

Thanks for your time.
