Tattoos

Does anyone know of agencies that will or will not hire because of tattoos on the forearms? I live in Cent. Fl.(Volusia Co.) I'm getting mixed responses from cities and counties. Some say it's OK and others say no.(in the same agency) HELP :confused: :confused: :confused:

How excessive are they? It wont keep you from getting hired here (generally); however, we have a general order that prohibits getting any tattoos that are visible while wearing a uniform (once hired). Im in Polk County, west of Orlando.

It is rumored that FHP is going to stop hiring people with visible tatts. I've also heard that they may make those who have them wear long sleeves to cover them up. I haven't heard anything official yet.

I dont have "sleeves" but I do have 2 on each forearm(kind of large) and bands around my arms. I finally found some depts. that will hire but then again some that wont

Yeah, Volusia County said no to tattoos. Seminole County said OK as long as they're not vulgar or obsene.

here in Lee county we jsut Taze them off.. I have a Tat (BIG) on my leg and they said it is no problem. Just dont get any visibles after hire date.

I think the idea of being forced to wear long sleeve uniforms year round in florida would be enough to make me make a career change :)

I think the idea of being forced to wear long sleeve uniforms year round in florida would be enough to make me make a career change :) I'm with you on that, however I know of 2 recent graduates who were damn fine applicants, but the only way they could go to one of the depts. they had their eye set on was to sign long sleeve contracts. Its gotta suck, but I guess if you want in bad enough so be it! If I had to wear long sleeves year round, you'd see my butt on FHP's door step in a heartbeat----tan is better then black in the sun any day! If they'd let you wear white it wouldent be so bad---you'd just look really out of place I suppose.
