Hey everyone. I'm new here. I've read through other posts, and was hoping someone can help me out. What are the steps to becoming a cop in Will County. Is it any different then cook county? How do I find out about test dates, and what steps I need to take to become a cop? I'm currently working towards a degree in criminal justice, and if it's going to take me 2 to 3 years to get my degree, I would like to start taking the necessary steps. Somebody please help.
Thanks.

What department do you want to work for. Do you want to work for the Will County Sheriff's department. They should be testing soon for both deputy sheriff and correctional officer. Which if you stay on track you will be eligible for the 2008 test cycle. The local departments like mokena, frankfort, chanahon and the like test every 2 years. an excellent source of job annoucements is chicaojobs. Good luck in your endeavors.

I heard cook county was like that. From what I've heard Will County is fair with the whole police thing. Either way thier department is one of the best sheriffs depaartments in the state. The area is growwing and as the couty grows the opportunity will increase. Look at it this way.......Ten years ago developement basically stopped south of route 30. Now today there is development as far south as Manhattan and Southern Will County. That county presents an exciting opportunity for any young Law Enforecement candidate. To put it this way 10 years ago Frankfort had like 16 sworn patrolmen. Today they are in the mid 30's. My best advice for you is to stay on top of the local papers for job ads, get in shape for the power test, and start testing the day after your 21st birthay day irregardless of whether or not you have a degree. The bottom line is the only way to get hired is to be on the list. i have known people who were hired from the last spot on the. And lastly most departments out in will county's lists move very quickly.

1. Call Will County and ask.
2. Usually they will advertise they are testing, when they do such apply.
3. Take written exam.
4. Take physical exam.
5. Other parts of testing process.
I would also recommend testing for other agencies, don't just hold out for one if you want to be a cop.

They have an employment link on their website:
http://www.willcosheriff.org/
Check it out. I know in the past when they were hiring Sheriffs Police they put all the information on the site. I live in Will County and they seem like a top notch department. They stopped me and the wife before for traffic and offered prof. courtesy. As ChiTownDet said having a little "Juice" helps also. Good Luck and Stay Safe 1*
