:D I bought one as an x-mas gift for family... don't worry they have to share when it's opened!
I always buy people what I would want. There's always advantages and disadvantages to that. If they don't like it, I can always 'return' it for them... or keep it and get em somethin else. HEE HEE :o

True, very true! ;)
Walmart carries the plug in style now. I got my kid one (well ok...I got one to show my kid how to play the games I had when I was in my late teens :p )...and it was only like twenty bucks. The whole computer is built into the joystick and you just plug it into the RCA jacks of your tv and go.

Actually works pretty well. It has all those original games that made the first Atari so cool. I like it cause its neat to pick up ...or not outrageous to just leave it plugged in and setting near the TV. Better yet...the on-off switch is ON the joystick too...you don't have to change channels or inputs or hook up ANYthing else.

How are the controllers on this thing? I remember that was the big problem with the original.

I haven't had the one I have long enough to know. I do remember what you are talking about though...I wore out more joysticks on that thing :D

I have seen the system. I have Atari Anthology for PS2 and play only about 5 or 6 of the games all in all. Still can't get any further ahead these 20 plus years later, so I gave up on the majority of them. :o Driver3, Burnout Revenge, Flatout and TD Eve Of Destruction are more my style games. :D

Considering that your cell phone could play an Atari 2600 game easily (Could play a Game Boy Advance game, easily, if you have a Razr...), I expect the companies to build more and more of these things. They're insanely cheap to make.
I like the Activision version, and the Atari version. Namco's ones don't stick enough games in the thing.
Then again, I'm also somewhat heavy into NES and Super NES emulation for PC and PDA, and play Super Nintendo games on my Pocket PC and real PC.
I seem to remember something about how easy it was to break the joysticks. I always used my Commodore 64 joysticks in my Atari 2600, cause they were nicer.

I have the original Atari somewhere. My brother and I got it for Christmas many years ago when we were kits. So, it was kind of fitting that my Mom gave the new one to us this year for Christmas. Havent had a chance to use it yet, but I will this weekend. It should be fun and bring back all sorts of memories.
Amazing that we played Pong 20 years ago compared to the video games now-a-days. They have come a long way!
