Hello,

I am another Californian wishing to transplant myself (and family) to the sun filled state of Arizona. I am considering testing with Phoenix PD, but I'd like to know a little more about them before I make my decision. I would appreciate any information that anyone can provide about the out of state lateral program, is there a modified academy? Is the testing process the same as a recruit applicant? Thanks.

You guys are killing our cost of living here lol, Well anyway I think it only takes four to eight weeks for a lateral process now for them, They do a six to seven week lateral academy, where they give you an opportunity to steady for the AZ POST Waiver test. Coming from Cali, I think you should have more then enough hours to qualify for the AZ POST Waiver,,,,You will probaly start somewhere close to fifty.. CG-What I cant understand is why any you guys would want to give that 3%@50 pension system up...I would stick it out just for that reason

Thanks for the info. 3% @ 50 is a sweet deal and the pay is okay in most areas, but the cost of living in the area I live is brutal. The average cost of a home is $740,000  , and that

Why don't you just buy the land the Sharks play on? They don't need it! You could probably get it real cheap. :)

Isn't that the truth... The Sharks are probably on their way out of San Jose. It looks like they are trying to find a new home somewhere else where they can fill :D (lol) an arena. But, oh well.

Just for you info also CG, you can buy back up to 8 yrs in the State of AZ PERS system, but I would vest 10 yrs in Cali and then use the rest of the money to buy back whatever time you have left, Phx PD will also give you Career Enhancement Points for your experience and training...Some of the points come out to an additional 300.00 a paycheck, kind of like what Cali does with advanced POST...

CG, the West Valley is the place to be right now...Peoria is a decent agency,,they are offering a 5,000 grand sign on bonus right now for laterals and are paying for moving expenses...They are very community policing oriented and send officers to every call, so you may wind up taking alot of BS reports that other agencies dont goto...There is a Peoria cop on here that use to work for my agency that will probaly chime in...He just got there...Glendale is where the action is ,The south part is Gangs, Gangs, stolen vehicles.....good agency, proactive, alot going in..North Glendale is pretty rich..so different extremes...You might try looking at Avondale for action and Goodyear for good perks and take home ride.....Stay away from Buckeye for now because of political issues going on right now...

AzInv,

Thanks. I think I will check out Glendale, gangs are my forte. Speaking of such if you know of any gang coppers out there that are interested in a great CA gang conference send them to www.ccgia.org. It is geared towards Cali, but there are some good topics and instructors.
