Need help from anyone who knows how the DEA sorted out pay differences between people joining when the DEA was set up.

I'm a customs investigator based in the UK and from April next year my job is being merged into a new agency, SOCA Serious Organised Crime Agency, the other members are being recruited from police squads and immigration services. We're having real difficulties over the fact that some people, depending on what their original agency was, are getting paid way more than others but we'll all be doing the same job.

The closest thing to this I can think of is the formation of the DEA, as far as I'm aware they recruited from several areas of law enforcement so does anyone know how they settled the pay anomalies? Did everyone have to sign up for federal law enforcement terms or did they keep their existing pay terms from their home force.

The new Director is visiting my office on Friday so any info before then would be a great help.

Thanks.

Even though there were a few different agencies involved, the various agents were all paid under the same federal system. A GS-13 in one agency should be making the same as a GS-13 in another, assuming similar tenure.

A better example for what you are describing might be when the Las Vegas Police Department and Clark County Sheriff's Office merged into the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. For the most part, contracts were upgraded so that no one lost anything and many gained. For instance, if a deputy with 10 years made $20,000 and an officer with 10 years made $22,000, the new Metro officers made at least $22,000.

Thanks for these replies guys, it wouls seem that we're being shafted here as we are being asked to join at our current pay rates leaving a difference of up to
