Hope4, that's definetly good news that you got the initial call. Just out of curiousity about what rank # are you around? I'm trying to gauge when they're going to reach the low 3000's.
My current rank is 921.

My current rank is 921.
That's what I dont understand. The nytrooper website says they reached rank # 2303 in the candidate processing held in Albany on March 28, 2009.
But yet you're saying you just got your initail call, and your rank is 921... How does this work, I'm confused???
Going buy the website I was guestimating that the next processing would be about 6 months after the March 28, which would be sometime in Sept. Based on what I thought was a normal class size I would say they'll be processing 1,000 to 1,500 in the next processing (100 to 150 people [10 to 1]). So that being said I'm here thinking... sh*t I may be starting my processing this Fall. Is that safe to say based off these facts???
Hope4's 921 just threw a monkey wrench into my equation..:D

He got a call for the background investigation, not a call to go to processing. He has already processed.
Don't assume anything about the next processing, or the next class, you will drive yourself crazy. Hope4 is ranked in the 900's and has talked to a BI. I am ranked in the 600's and I know others that are also, and we haven't talked to a BI yet.
the only thing you can get out of all that info is that, when they need another class and it is approved, they will process more people. Who knows what number it will be and when. It will happen sometime between now and 2012, at which point they will give another test.
Considering they had to process more people in march that tells me #1 they have money for another academy and #2. That everyone who was left over from the first processing passed and completed everything has a spot in the next academy or else why would they need to process more candidates. However I could be totally wrong. They could just be processing more people to keep the hiring unit in albany employed. I just hope I'm in the next academy I want to put that uniform on. I'm. sure that goes for everyone here

gmoney,
Yeah the contact that im referring to is the inital by the BI. I was originally contacted to do the processing in september but had to defer because I had a foot injury that would have prevented me from being able to run. I was then contacted again to do the processing in march which I went to and successfully passed.
The fact that i deferred ranked me higher then alot of people that were at the processing in march because I should have gone through in september. If they process every 6 months the next wave would probally get the invite in aug or sept.
Hopefully that gets the monkey wrench out of your equation :)

Im out of the last class I took the same test you guys did and i was ranked 180... whats really throwing a wrench in your equation is that only 45 of the 197th were from the new list the other 45 were from the old list. also there are a quite a few guys that i processed with that are just waiting for the next acadmey. ranked in the low 200's - 300's ive talked with a bunch of em and many of them have begun their follow up investigations with their BI's to update their files with any changes that might have occured over the last six months. Also my class graduated only 88 .. and started with 95.. the classes have been a smaller recently. Just stay patient.. and try not to drive yourselves crazy... good luck.. if you have anymore questions, ill do my best to give an answer to the best of my knowledge...

I think your situation sums it up perfectly. It's useless to try and assume when you may get called. You're in the 600's, but Hope4 is ranked in the 900s, processed 6 months after you in March, and has already got a contact from his BI. I also know a person who was in the 600s and received the DQ letter back in March (processed in September). The fact that you and others have heard nothing yet defies all logic, but that is just how the process goes. Despite this I still have some confidence there will be both a class and another processing before this year is over.

the last few weeks of my class they were talking - and just talking about having to update/change the cirriculum which would take a few months. i would agree with you though that they would try to push another class through before January.. I also THINK that if they did have above said class then it would primarily be filled with those who have already processed. and my roommate was the last backfill in our class and i believe he was ranked 326... but there were people i know who had to defer last class and ranked fairly low.. in the 200 -300's -

My father is one of the Albany County Coroners and on a scene today he was talking to several of troopers. They were telling him that within the next year the state is losing close to 300 troopers, so depending on the budget... that sounds pretty good for anyone going through the processing.

Ok so I'm not sure how things work but. They are sending troopers back to the field because they don't need them to assist with processing. But what if you are already processed and waiting to get in. are the instructors troopers also? Are they sending them out also?

They are sending guys back to the road because they aren't needed at the academy. They aren't needed at the academy because there isn't going to be an academy class going through anytime soon.
BTW... just because 300 guys are eligable for retirement this year... (1) it doesn't mean they are going to and (2) it doesn't mean NYS has to replace a single one of them, if they do retire.

Thats my outlook also, I expect the worst so that in the end if something doesnt work out in my favor im not as disappointed.
My concern right now isnt really when the next class will go through its the damn polygraph, freaking losing sleep over the thing. Not because ive lied or have something to hide just because ive been waiting for this since i was 17 and now here it is. Ive been overly honest during this processing but it would be just my luck to fail that thing. Basically if I fail im done if i pass I go on, I think thats what is freaking me out the most.

Don't sweat the polygraph (although you may sweat while taking it) if you are going to be completely honest, you should be fine. As far as the next academy class, def sounds grim from what everyone is saying... but just gives everyone more time to get in better shape and maybe win the lotto

Everybody is saying the march processing might mean they're planning a class but don't the "prepare for a fall 2009 academy class" letters present stronger evidence that there would be an oct class? I know funding and things change quickly but would they send out those letters without strongly expecting a class?
I mean some people have posted that they received those letters as recent as this month did they not?
This process is so rough. I feel bad for the guys who got those letters recently and planned around it. Now I'm in a way glad I haven't received one yet.
Also have they sent academy staff home in the past and then turned around and started an academy only months later? Is sending staff back to their zone routine?

Seeing as how he is employed by the NYSP I would trust him more than someone in Virginia? Just a suggestion.
Look at it this way. If there is an october academy they need to conduct a medical 30 days prior and they mail you the invite about 2 to 3 weeks prior. so for an october academy invites should get out with in the month of august.so the first person to get an invite let us know

I hope the rumors are false too, and I have to believe they are. A two year stretch without new hires would be devastating, because retirements continue right along. We would be at a skeleton crew within six months. That's bad for morale, bad for productivity, bad for your health, bad for the family life, etc., etc., etc.

It's actually not a 2 year stretch. I talked to a trooper friend of mine the other day and he heard that academy was suspended for a year. He also said he does not know if it is rumor or not. I though about this last night and there could indeed be a class going in October as the March letters some received stated, and that may be the last class for a year, therefore bringing us to 2011. If fiscal 2009 was budgeted for 2 classes, then that may actually happen. 2010 is a whole different story, which some are predicting will be worse than 2009, and this may be where we don't see any classes. And that would make some sort of sense because when would the Oct. class end; March 2010. When does New York's 2009 fiscal year end; that's right March 31, 2010.
Wow, I just overanalyzed everything, but it does make sense.

With the way the talks are going, I'm kind of glad that I'm going the route that I'm going. I've wanted to go into LE for quite a while, but got a little bit of a late start, and looks like it's the end of the road for me now. I'll be leaving in a few weeks to attend BCT and then onto OCS via the Army. I'll still be able to help people less fortunate than myself, which was my main reason for wanting to join an LE agency. I'll still be lurking around these threads, as I have been for the past few years. I wish everyone the best and hopefully there will be classes upcoming for the ones right on the fence of getting in.

So do any of the Troopers on here have any advice for the duration and type of running that one can expect while in the academy?
Currently I am running 3 miles a day and occasionally some weights when I get a chance. Thanks.

What do we do, meet in Buffalo one month, then Yonkers the next?
Maybe having regional meetings with an annual meeting somewhere central -- like the Governors house :D

You run the loop which is around a 5K. As you get close to an actual academy date stick with pushups, situps, mountain climbers, squat thrusters, and I think they have added burpees.

Don't worry someone will be there to help you, just not her!
She actually has great form; lands on her heels and takes off from them again. Most people lean forward onto the balls of their feet which takes away from the exercise...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the last test State Police didn't have a budget problem and every year they had two classes per year. So far they only had two classes off of this test and the first class had candidates from the 04 exam. Sooooooo I can't really see it going up to 10,000. But I hope they do.

Well with the whole country in a economic bind, there is a chance that alot of people will be taking other jobs and may move on from the SP process since it has been extended so much. Just a thought, you never know what is going to happen.

FYI.......
July 29, 2009 by WILLIAM MURPHY / william.murphy@newsday.com
Police departments in Nassau, Suffolk and New York City lost their bids for a share of nearly $1 billion in federal stimulus grants that the Obama administration doled out Tuesday.
The grants will enable 1,046 police departments across the nation to hire or rehire 4,699 police officers for three years, with the localities promising to pick up the tab for at least one additional year.
The $19.9 million for New York State went to 12 local police departments from Poughkeepsie to Utica, but the applications from New York City, Nassau and Suffolk did not qualify based on a formula involving crime levels and budget needs.
The selection process left some localities unhappy. It was "disappointing, to put it mildly," New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said. The city had applied for $650 million.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Steve Levy, who was seeking $12 million, said "it looks like we are being punished for managing our budget well and keeping crime low, which is unfortunate."
Nassau officials had been so confident of getting at least some money that they budgeted $12 million over the next three years. "I can't imagine us not getting the grant," the county's labor negotiator, Daniel McCray, said in March.
"We are surprised that we did not receive this funding and are still unaware of the reasons why we did not receive it, as details of the award have not been provided," said Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi.
Cash-strapped localities flooded the Justice Department during the past several months with applications, more than 7,000 in all.
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, speaking at a news conference Tuesday in Philadelphia with Vice President Joe Biden, said the money was allocated "based on crime rates, financial need and community policing activities.
"These officers will go to where they are needed most," Holder said.
The Justice Department said it ranked each application on a 100-point scale, with half the points awarded for fiscal need and half based on crime statistics and community policing plans.
Half the $999.955 million was allocated for jurisdictions with populations of more than 150,000 people, and half to smaller jurisdictions, so big cities competed against big cities and small towns competed against small towns.
Most of the winning applications were rated in the 90s, while New York City got 64.8 points, Nassau County 62.4, Suffolk sheriffs 44.7, Suffolk Police 25.3 and Suffolk Park Police 8.6.
The Village of Hempstead police missed the cut with 84.1 points, while tiny Malverne Village was awarded only 6.6 points.
The city of Chicago, President Obama's political and home base, got $13.25 million of the $25.9 million awarded within Illinois. Ohio localities got $79.3 million and Utah got slightly more than $5 million. Each state was guaranteed a minimum of $5 million.

I am still gonna be the optimistic one on here. I think that if NYS was not planning on having the 198th session this fall that they would have posted it on the website. In doing so it would prevent the calls to troops and albany regarding the status of the academy. This is purely my opinion and as with any government, local or federal, common sense does not always prevail. :)

Id be surprised if it was true about a class going in for November. Ive heard from several troopers that the academy is shut down.
My buddys father is a senior investigator for the state police and he basically told his son to go back to school because there is going to be a freeze on the hiring.
I recently went to a funeral for my cousin's mother. He is also a trooper, there was a honory gaurd for her, and about 4 troopers were all saying the same thing.
With that said who knows, id be very surprised however if there was another class before the next fiscal year.

i believe its been posted before... that its not up to the NYSP when an academy is held. They are going to have everything ready for when they get the ok from Govn't to put one through. Division will be prepared to put a class through as soon as the money is available to do so. that is why they are grading exams, and making sure candidates are up to date on everything. It wouldnt be very professional to be told yes, you can put a class through but it has to start by this date and not be prepared or have enough candidates ready to fill the numbers. Nickebloom i know its hard but you just need to be patient and try not to think too much about it.

Trooper killed in midday crash
By ANDREA VanVALKENBURG
Staff Writer
PERU — Area law-enforcement are mourning the death of one of their own, killed in a motorcycle crash Thursday.
Trooper Travis Capen was off-duty midday Thursday when he rode his bike through the intersection of Dashnaw and Lapham Mills roads and was struck by an oncoming car.
After a preliminary investigation, State Police believe the other driver, Michael Keenan, 61, of Peru, was driving his Chevy Impala north on Dashnaw Road around 11 a.m., when he stopped at the stop sign and pulled into the intersection.
Police said Keenan didn’t see the eastbound motorcyclist when he pulled into the road and smashed into Capen’s 1999 Suzuki.
Capen, a 29-year-old local father, suffered extensive injuries when he was thrown from his bike.
Both drivers were taken by ambulance to CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, where Capen was pronounced dead on arrival.
Keenan was later listed in stable condition.
The notorious intersection —the site of several serious accidents in the past — was blocked for several hours Thursday afternoon as authorities continued their investigation.
Capen had been on the force since 2005 and resided in Morrisonville with his wife and young children.
He was most often on highway patrol based out of the State Police station in Valcour, Capt. Robert LaFountain said.
Capen was also head varsity wrestling coach at AuSable Valley High School and was active with his team throughout the year.
He was a graduate of AVCS, where he had been a member of the wrestling team.
After the crash, Troop B Commander Maj. Richard C. Smith Jr. called Capen’s death a tragic loss.
“On behalf of all New York State Police members and civilian personnel, I would like to extend my condolences to the family of Travis A. Capen, who proudly served the Division of State Police since 2005,” Smith said in a statement.
“He was a dedicated public servant, and this is a great loss to our organization and the community Trooper Capen served. ”

From reading all of the previous posts by guys on the job, who have been pretty right about most things, I think the academy is closed for a while.
Even in your post "tentatively scheduled fall 09" the key word is tentatively...
ten·ta·tive (tnt-tv)
adj.
1. Not fully worked out, concluded, or agreed on; provisional: tentative plans.
2. Uncertain; hesitant.
I am ranked in the 600's, which means I would probably be in consideration for the next academy, and I am still waiting to hear from a BI (and I know of others that are also in the same situation). just an FYI.

All I'm saying is my point of view that an official letter was sent out. They have to say tentatively because everything is subject to change.there's a lot of rumors going around about no academy and if there isnt then there isnt but a letter or a website post has not been made yet saying there is no academy.and what does your rank on the test have anything to do with what I said.. your in the 600s with no bi yet. I'm in the 500s with everything completed ,so what.I'm not trying to prove anyone wrong. I'm just stating my opinion if no one is with me that's fine. Just hoping for the best.
And to just throw another one out there. This charge nurse I work with in the hospital. Her sonis a trooper and I asked if she would ask himwhat the deal was with the academy. And shejust got back to me and what he said was this. That they did pull out the academy staff but only for the summer. They will be brought back to start an academy late october or early november...I also heard from another source who knows a bi personally that there will be a october academy but I'm not getting into it because I know someone on this forum is going to dump on me already saying the opposite. Just stating what I heard

I am not saying you are trying to prove people wrong, I am not saying your opinion is wrong and I am not trying to put you down in any way. Don't take a post on a forum personally, the glass half full thing was just saying you are very optimistic.
What I am saying is that the Troopers are not the fastest at posting updates. Also I was stating my rank and situation because if they were to have a fall class I would think that they would be working on getting BIs and other things done since they typically process 10 for each spot, and they were into the 400's for the last academy. I am just as hopeful as you are, but from what I am hearing and has been posted on here, it looks like the academy is shut down for a while. SDT posted a few days back that he didn't think they would be having another academy until the new fiscal year. He was speculating, but I have heard this from several other guys on the job.
I am just as hopeful that the academy is this fall because I would like to be going into it (would like more to be coming out of it), but it just looks like most of the signs are pointing to there not being one for a while.

Even though I am ranked above 11k on the state police list (and probably have a slim-to-none chance at getting contacted), I know how you guys feel. I'm currently in the process of applying to law schools and waiting on decisions from a few. I'm waiting for the big envelopes to come in the mail as opposed to the small ones and it is getting extremely nerve racking.
Realistic candidates for the NYSP need to realize that much, if not all, of the process is out of their hands. I'm still having difficulty with this waiting stuff in my own matter, but I realize I gotta calm down. I know it is easier said than done but all I can recommend is doing things that may make you a better candidate.
I'm not certain if the NYSP vetting process pays as much attention to public/community service as law schools do, but I don't imagine it hurting. It also creates an opportunity to have your mind focused on something else. If you are still in college, play a sport to stay active; as well as to be a member of a team. I imagine that this would also be beneficial in the vetting process.
Although I am pursuing other options, I would be honored for the opportunity to wear the gray and purple. I have the utmost respect for all of you and wish you all luck in your future endeavors. Stay smart, stay safe.

They will be brought back to start an academy late october or early november...I also heard from another source who knows a bi personally that there will be a october academy but I'm not getting into it because I know someone on this forum is going to dump on me already saying the opposite. Just stating what I heard
ACAP, I like what I'm hearing from you.. stay positive, we're in same boat, everything completed, background, poly, etc.. just waiting for the gates to open up.. good info..

FYI - I know for a fact that there are candidates above the 600's who have completed everything and are ready to go.

A recruiter told me that from the last number taken into the previous class up to 1116 or so that they had 300 candidates ready to go into the next class. Myself included. Lets hope for fall this year.

Nickelbloom - quick question for you .. where do you get your info from and why are you so sure that what you think you know is right ?
I got a letter 2 weeks before my academy started... so dont get people thinking that they will have a letter of acceptance 1.5 mos before it starts... sometimes things move quick and you dont have much time at all.. My whole processing only lasted 3 weeks... from agility test, backround investigation, psych and polygraph and final medical to the night i took my 1st step into the academy as a recruit... I actually recieved a phone call asking if i would accept a position into the academy and then a letter followed a few days later.
I know what im talking about b/c i lived it .. I hope this helps anyone out there trying to get in.. just stay in shape and be prepared for things to happen at anytime..

It is along wait to get back to where I live, but if I don't take it it will be even longer. If I pass when they may call the next guy in Zone or Troop may get called which would make it even longer for me to get back!

Saw this one too....
ALBANY, NY - Pulling the State Police out of Stewart Airport in Newburgh isn’t the only way the agency is looking to save money in these tough economic times.
There is currently no class of new state troopers at the police academy in Albany and there is not likely to be one any time soon, said State Police spokesman Lt. Glenn Miner.
“The police academy itself will not close; we still do in-service training and conduct training; however, we do not currently have a recruit class going through the academy and it is yet to be determined when we might have a future recruit class going through,” he said. “Any subsequent decisions after this budget period would be based on future budgetary concerns.”
State Police are also pulling out of the patrol function at the Javits Center in New York City.

I wasn't sayin that my info was legit or not. I was just saying that if they are planning on a class in November that we should have letters to re-do medical processing by mid september (usually 2 weeks before actual processing weekend) and mid september because usually med weekend is 6 weeks before the start of the class.
ALL of that is just speculation, I went through processing last fall up to waiting for a phone call. Nothing I experienced followed the time line stated on the website. I am sure that it won't next time either based on the economy.
My post was in reply to someone who stated the academy WILL start in OCT/NOV.

Agreed - lol - the ATO's have a keen sense for the guys/gals that they can get under the skin of pretty quick.. if this website / or anticipation of the Academy is getting anyone a lil jostled.. the 1st month at B dorm will not be a pretty one..
- in refernce to the original processing weekend.. I was at the original fall one... agilty/psych.... the 3 weeks started when i heard from the investigator who conducted my Backround investigation... I had to do the push ups and situps again when I went to the Final Medical Exam at the Academy... I havnt spent any time in the service.. but im glad alot of guys in my class had b/c they really helped all of us who hadnt along with the military bearing the academy demands... for you guys who are close to getting in.. the best advice I can give you is the sooner you can all come together and work as a call in a whole the easier the academy will get.

First, I just want to say congrats to the guys that got cut loose. I was a Trooper candidate last year and was actually offered a spot in the Academy. I had the fortunate position of having two things going for me. I ended up going with CBP, partially so that I didn't have to relocate out of Buffalo, but also because I felt like it better suited my interests. I've recently been cut loose myself, working solo for over a month. Anyways, congrats again. Secondly, I just want to say that I respect the NY State Police, and feel for the Trooper involved in the shooting. Keep doing your job out there and stay safe.

What happens if you don't make it out of FTO, are you done, or do you have to cycle back through for more training?

Depends. They hold your hand for a little while but if you don't get it... you are a danger to yourself and everyone else so you are told to find another line of work.
As for rumors about the academy.... I was told by my deligate that when he was just in Albany, the word was late spring or early summer at the earliest.
There is no need to talk about what I was just talking to my PBA deligate ;)

I think it is commendable that this was allowed to happen and NYSP rewarded this individual for his service to his country and continued desire to serve.

I remember my 1st day of college baseball practice.. let me tell ya .. it was nothing at all compared to the 1st night at the academy...
College baseball was fun as hell though.. youll have fun with it.. just dont let your coaches over use you and get you injured.. i pitched 3 9 inning games in 7 days my junior year and ended up with a torn labrum... but id do it again if i could.. whos going to turn down the seams when they are given to you ??? no one i know..
Hahaha, yeah I'm sure the Academy and practice isn't comparable. Just a ton of running and even though I though I would be somewhat ok, I wasn't. So far I like it. I'm having some shoulder problems right now so I'm the lucky winner who does poles ALL practice long. I'm like you I'll never turn down getting the ball no matter what. My coach knows about my shoulder and I have no idea how he found out so he shut me down for the fall season  Looks like I'll be a bullpen bully!!!!!!!!!

I spoke to a Trooper about 1 week ago and asked him specifically if academy was temporarily suspended. His response was the same as we've been reading on this board. It's closed for new classes for at least 6 months (until this fiscal year is done which is March 2010). It's open for regular training of current Troopers. I wouldn't expect a class this year unless money magically appears out of thin air, that's just the reality of it. I'm in the next group of processing when they start up again so it sucks for me even worse.

One of our Investigators received an applicant packet over a month ago. I wouldn't read too much into it.
Like I have mentioned before they don't want to get caught with their pants down (so to speak) and have the funding for a large class and not have enough applicants processed.

What happened in your interview with the BI? Can anyone on here tell me why NYSP are so secretive with when they may or may not have an academy? Just wondering, cause I am waiting for spot myself. I work in Florida already, and I know that state govt is slow, but I dont know why there is such a huge difference in the time frames listed on here by different people. I was supposed to be in the last class that graduated but had to wait till the next one and now here we are.

My meeting was for Thursday at 10:00am, however when I got there after about 30 minutes of sitting around waiting, another investigator came out and ask if I had received a voicemail this morning. Unfortunately for me my cell phone died the night before and my phone charger was at work, so I never got the voicemail telling me that the meeting had to be reschedueled, because my investigator was out till 4am, on another case. I went home checked my email and he also left me an email at around 4am informing me not to come. Moral of the story is dont let your cell phone die the night before a big meeting and always check your email :) .
Supposidly hes going call me next week and make another appointment.
Im just worried this appointment overall isnt going to be a good one, I just find it weird I havent heard crap sense the poly, and then I get a random phone call... I dunno maybe im just looking into it to much. I suppose if I was disqualified for something he wouldnt even bother having me come in.

It's not a secret. It's just that nobody knows. Even the top brass doesn't know, because it's not up to them. It's up to the legislature and the Governor. But if I happen to see the Governor, I'll ask him for you.;)

Test for what? If you mean the enterance exam... it was already given and the list has been established. You will have to wait for another couple of years for the next test if you aren't already on the current list.

I'm definately not a Chevy fanboy but if it performs and will stand up to a crash like the CV will, I would give it a try.
I know some senior guys rave about the old bubble caprice because it had some balls (260 HP?) and still handled. I have higher standards though. I want to see a caprice wadded up (rolled ~6X at high speed like out in Troop A last year) and the guys who were in it walk away or at least make it through the crash with non-life threatening injuries.
I hate the CVPI from a performance aspect... it has the same powerplant that my Mustang GT has but my old bone stock 2004 V6 mustang could run circles around a CVPI. On the other hand... I've been in, and seen a few CVPI's that have come in contact with some pretty hard, stationary things and the car did what it was supposed to... protect the occupants. Sure there are crashes that just aren't survivable no matter what you're in short of an Abrams M1A2 but I'd take better chances of surviving a crash versus a cool looking car and 6.0L motor.
cadetlinux
10-05-2009, 10:05 PM
This car is tried and true as a police vehicle in Australia where it's the Holden Commodore. I also own the civilian version of this, a Pontiac G8 GT, and can tell you the 6.0L, suspension, and braking, would probably help avoid a few accidents that the CVPI is not capable of avoiding.
With the CVPI ending production in 2011 (Ford's most recent change of mind as they want to promote the Ford Taurus as the next police vehicle) I think the Caprice stands a very fair chance of becoming our next patrol vehicle. It's RWD where as the Ford is not. Switching to a FWD vehicle would cost a ton of money as in service EVOC would have to be held for liability purposes.
I have my fingers crossed.

In the city we currently have crown vics and impalas as the main fleet... crown vics are great and reliable cars suspension can hold up and it has balls, the only crown vics that are interceptors are with our highway unit but even the regular ones are good... the impalas are the biggest pieces of crap ever made.. they are too small can barely fit a cage and the suspension and tranny are crap... they cannot withstand city streets and are usually garbage at 15-20k miles. We also have an altima in my command but i wont even get started on that! I will deeply miss the CV but I hope and pray that the caprice is as good as im told the old one was.. and can replace the POS impala!

I'd like to know what version of the CV you guys have that reportedly has some balls... I guess if your used to a honda civic putting out 197 hp and 139 tq then the anemic 240 hp and 290 tq crown vic feels like it pulls like a raped ape but once you try to run down a 100+ on the highway you will have a very diffrent opinion about just how big the CVPI's balls really are.
As for the G8... I've ridden in one and yes it does feel strong but but it doesn't feel like what I think 400 hp 420 tq would feel like. I guess I wont be happy till we are all cruising to complaints in Vette's.

only the g8 GXP puts up those numbers. My GT is around 350 but it pulls a bit harder than my stock GTO did. I'd rather have a vette for patrol too but yhe caprice is head and shoulders above the other optioms in performance, including the charger.

What are the troopers opinions on here of the Tahoe's and chargers?
Tahoe's are not police vehicles... they are utility vehicles and should be used as such for things like the monthly supply run to Troop and towing "The Convincer". I don't care how much you lower the tahoe... it is not meant to weave through traffic chasing down the 98 that blew past you on the other side of the median. I've seen a few tahoes up on 2 wheels... not something I've seen a CV do. The tahoe is also not meant to fly through back country roads while running to get to another Trooper who is calling for help. I will not drive the tahoes we have at the station... I will take the oldest, most beaten up, tired CV or I will take the desk but I will not drive a tahoe.
The charger that we had for a week proved to handle much better than the CV and of course could wind up to 100 before the CV hit 80 so it was as awesome car for the night I got to drive it. I'm sure if I had one for a couple of months I could find things I didn't like about it but for now I can say that it seemed like a very good car with the exception of the trunk. The trunk is not big enough for a Trooper. We have to carry so much extra crap, I mean equipment, with us that the trunk in the charger did not seem adequate.
DubyaSTI

I have the same feelings on the Tahoe, but it seems I always get stuck with one. I hate driving it at high speeds because of the body roll on turns and winding roads. The new Tahoe is much better IMO but I'd still rather be in a CV.
The seats in the Tahoe give me a back ache also lol.
