Anyone know what the New York State Police policy is regarding tattoos?I have a sleeve on my left arm and multiple ones on my right forearm.Would this give me any problems processing? Thanks.

Only if it is a swatstika, or worse, a Hillary for president tatt.

Several departments around my area prohibit any tattoo visible with normal uniform wear.

From what I remember being told at the march processing or by a recruiter is that you can't have any that would show if you are wearing a short sleeve uniform. I know at processing they asked all applicants that would have visible tattoos to stand in a separate line during a certain point in the day.

I believe they will not appoint you unless you have the tatoos removed from your forearm. They may not even conduct your background until after they are removed.

That is pretty goofy if you ask me.. I dont see why all depts dont just make officers wear long sleeves all the time if they have visible tattoos.. Of course they could have restrictions like no gang, drug, hate-group tattoos etc., but I dont understand the problem with them as long as they are covered..

I don't think it is looking good for you. There were guys in my session that had tribal tattoos and they made them wear the summer shirt during the process to see if they showed.

I don't think it was a big problem years ago as I saw an older Trooper with a tat on his forearm and there is another guy with about 8yrs on who has a half sleeve. Another guy in my session had them all over his legs, back, and upper arms but non were really visible...

Either way good luck in the process.
