I'm thinking of relocating to the mountains and we are looking at the Knoxville area. Anyone work for or know anything about Knoxville pd or the S.O. in the area? Also, is it a good place to raise kids?

Knoxville is a great city. It's close to the Smokey Mountains, has great schools and is very family oriented. The Knoxville City Police Dept. has in the last few years gotten a new chief (former FBI) and has been growing (see their website). The starting salary is low, but as long as you stick with it, I believe there would be some potential there. The cost of living in TN is reasonable and there are no state income taxes. There are a lot of departments in TN and like most, they are in need of Officers. Middle and East Tennessee are the best places to raise a family without the need to look at private schools and you can actually afford a house with land.
