One of my friends was going 110 down the 5N by the Tejon Pass. Just wondering GENERALLY what happens. This is her first ever offense. Will she lose her license, etc?
THANKS!

She will lose her license for 30 days and be fined. The minimum fine is approx $471.
(btw... Cars do not stay in one piece during a 110 mph collision)

Tejon Pass is I-5 until it get to the north side of the pass then it splits to SR-99 and I-5.
110????? First offense? First time caught you mean! What Choke said! Say buy to her license for at least 30.

Hey CarCop, DUI and Darth, I assume that's a reckless charge right? Would you guys normally arrest for something like that or just issue a citation?

It is reckless and you can go forth with. I have cited for over 100 several times and have yet to take someone to jail just for that, but I can. It depends on a few things, Good DL, any priors, that persons car (actual owner), driving like an ***** (not just fast), How far is the jail, ( if your the only unit on that "side of town" and the jail is a 30-40 min drive...hmm, May serve better to cite and release).
Should go without saying that if the person has any alcohol in their system, I'll call for a tow cause you just won a free ride with me :D

Just on speed? NO. It would be difficult (at least for the Dist. Att in my county) if I even wrote a "reckless" charge let alone arrest for it. The DA wants to see typically 3 violations rolled into a 23103 VC conviction. i.e. - speed, unsafe lane change, following too close (etc...)
I write a few 100+ (22348(b) VC) cites a month. Just sign here, press hard 4 copies, a small little lecture about what happens to vehicles that crash at 100 mph, then on their way. Then a few weeks later - bye bye license.

100 plus? Wrote a bunch over the years, some trucks, many cars. Some have gone to see the magistrate who then sometimes releases them, sometimes sets bail and they wait to see the judge, or post bond. Some simply get to sign a summons on the roadside. Used to result in a $100 - $500 fine only. Got new judges last summer in both courts so it's changed. For example, had one today from several states away, in circuit court, $2000 fine ($1500 suspended, $500 to pay plus his lawyers fees), 6 months license suspension in Va., and 90 days in jail with all but 14 suspended which means he has to stay and pull 7 good days to get the 14 credited. He's in his 20s, parents went back to NY without him. That's pretty typical now.

It all depends on how good (expensive) her lawyer is ;)
