Gentlemen, I'm a United States Marine stationed in California, from Wooster, Ohio, and deploying to Iraq Jan 06 to May 06. I'm volunteer infantry and have spent soon to be 2yrs in Iraq. My soon to be wife has a great job in Mansfield and is close to her family. I am currently looking for a LE job in the area of Mansfield or Richland County, or surrounding areas. I've wrote all local police and sheriff departments and there seems to be no available openings expected for next year. Of course I would have to be available for all the stages, and of course be selected.
I'm told with wife and child already emplaced the Ohio State Highway Patrol will do their best to accomodate me to Richland or a neighboring county. Does anyone have any experience with this, or know of any other nearby job openings. Any help would be much appreciated.
Semper Fi,
Cpl Derek Hilbert

I'll provide you with a link to my department's website. Although we're not testing right now, we WILL hold a test sometime in 2006. You can electronically apply online, and when the next test is held, you will be invited to attend via letter. If you have questions or want to know more, you can always PM me. Take your time and check it out; it's well paying job with great benefits. :D

Re. OSHP.. don't count on getting stationed near where you live. they base your placement on how you finish in the academy, and then they decide based on needs of the various post..i.e. if you finish first in the academy and you want to goto Richland, that's possible, but only if Richland has an opening, if not, you would go to your next choice, etc.. I would try the sheriffs offices in your area. You could always start as a CO and work your way up to road patrol. Good Luck
I know in Richland and surrounding county agencies positions are scarce right now. (at least for anything that pays at all) The budget crunch really hurt.
Not sure about the OSP

OSHP changed the way they place troopers out of the academy. The 144th class was the first to use a "wish list" system. Basically you put in what three posts you would like most to go to and put down what reasons you think you should go to that post. The staff then takes your hardships in to consideration and places you at a post. If you have two people that want to go to one post and there is only one opening whoever is ranked higher gets the spot.
If you have any more OSHP questions feel free to ask.
