Are you for real.....they are going to run your asses into the ground, then add in some push-ups and other misc tortures. I would hate to tell you about the rest. You will just have to experience it for yourself.
LOL!! First PT is probably just the normal testing. See where you stand..
but after that.. hahaha yea you will learn to HATE those two letters.
I only have 8 more PT days to go untill i'm done!!!!

What a load of S... I actually got kudos from the staff for mine and my class still used it to keep in touch since we are so spread out. In fact, one of the staff members copied all my notes so she can use them as handouts.
For those who haven't seen my mirror site of our class web site (I took out all our personal info to protect the guilty, LOL) here it is. The staff loved it. I even kept a list of quotes of the funny things the staff said while we were getting screamed at and such and presented copies of them to the staff after I graduated. Yea, a bit ballsy but they got a good laugh out of reading some of the stuff (of course that is not on the mirror site.)

as for today at the academy... all i can say is: WOW!!!!!
so many out of shape people couldnt hang at all with the PT. today was our first day of PT.absolutly brutal for some... i have to be honest... my face became numb during our pushups session, and i can do 70 good form push ups.
Steve,
I figured. I sent you a message from the site yesterday and said you better double check with the Academy Staff.

well Ches and Mets...
we have had 3 people quit, about to be a 4th or 5th as well very soon... surprisingly we got all of our PT stuff done today with only one small incident... some of the candidates cannot run!!! or jog for that matter... we are doing all that we can to motivate, but they didnt prepare for the academy. shame on not only them, but all of us. because we all pay hard for one persons screw up... hell one of the marines in the class compares it to marine corp boot...
but im loving the PT ;)
its the best part of my day... we have had PT everyday but day 1 and day 2, its great...
That's what ****es me off. We need bodies and we only start with 100....what the hell do I know, however??????
We need to figure out how to expand our applicant pool.
4 or 5 wont be the last....
BTW: I'm starting to hear the rumors!!! You guys better buck up!

Halfway thru our academy- three left for personal reasons; one was eliminated because of academics. Its my understanding that unless you are in just totally awful physical shape, you wont get removed from our academy for PT performance, or lackthereof. As long as you give 110%(and the instructors seem to know if you are or not), you will be safe. At least thats how I heard it is....DT in two weeks for me- yee haw !!!

in all honesty...
its hard to explain the day to day schedule...
basically class room fun all day, then we break for PT at about 3ish... we PT for as long as the sgt wants or until we get everything done right as a one...
if one person drops or screws up, we all find ourselves in the front lean and rest, or on our backs doing leg lifts... or what have you.
today was especially hard because for some reason or another, the candidates didnt have their act together... i even dropped the ball once because i was super amped up and didnt realize i had sprinted past a specific mark and i just didnt stop lol...
anyways... today was the toughest day thus far for PT.
At least you're not coming into and leaving the compund while its still dark. That was the worst. Chores sucked as well. I just wanted to leave at that time instead of another 30 mins+ of BS.

hah I remember those days. We had a guy who was trying the academy for the 2nd time. You'd think he'd keep working out after he failed the first time.. but no.. MAN he made PT hard.
We never had anyone quit our class... Our "drill instructors" tried.. oh lord did they try to get us to quit. We had one guy who had to drop because he got REALLY sick. Then the big guy finally failed again... thats about it..
And about the big guy.. he DOESN'T need to be a LEO. Someone who puts their finger on the trigget then waves the gun around trying to find the saftey just DOESN'T need a gun.
Oh yea.. that part of training is fun. hahahaha well some of it was..

welp...
we lost another candidate...
and i wouldnt be surprised if another drops out soon.
we started with 35 on the roster at payroll, down to 28 now, and its been physically difficult for those who decided to sit around for the 5 month application process... especially when we were told to start running 2-5miles a day and begin a physical training session of our own prior to the august 29 start date.
its just amazing at how many of the candidates claimed they could run 2 miles... those same candidates cant even complete a 1/4mile run
it makes us all look bad, and to think, these guys just might make it out on the streets. maybe thats mean of me to say... but my life will be in their hands, and i dont think some of them have what it takes to have my back when crap hits the fan.
Damn, why are so many people dropping out of your accademy...? i just dont understand how you could go into something as physically demanding as that and not get prepared.... not being able to run a 1/4 mile... thats pretty bad.. im a horrible runner and i can do that. keep us posted man, and goodluck!!

All I was saying was to get your venting out here and don't do it at the academy. The staff sees all and knows that everyone said they were super runners instead of owning up to the fact that they can't run. Don't let it bother you, they will get theirs. Figure that when you do a 5 mile run you'll have it pretty easy as the guys in the back are sweating their balls off trying to keep up.
As far as the trigger pull for the HK. When I wore out my springs I replaced the trigger spring w/ a lighter one off of ebay. It really worked wonders. The kit came with a replacement recoil spring and 3 different trigger springs of different weights.
Ya gotta tell us why the weak didn't pt. I'll admit their were days when I didn't want to hit it hard in the academy but, like you, I told myself that if I take it easy in the academy I'll do the same on the street and die. That was enough to keep me going. I puked after every 500yd sprint & the staff loved it!!

it is annoying yes, but i am having the time of my life...
today was our first day of firearms training... however, they gave us a day of shooting to figure out which HK USP we wanted... the compact or full-size...
i elected to shoot the full-size, and the double action trigger press is a stiff one i can tell you that...
but anyway, today was our first real day of FA training, and ive gotten damn good with this HK. today was probably the best day thus far...
shooting all day, then a great PT session with out the weak minded because they... well i wont get into that

VAsteve20, you mentioned that one of the recent "drops" was due to injury. I'm curious, what type of injury? I would assume with a normal athletic injury (twisted ankle, pulled muscle, etc.), they would let you take a few days of rest from PT, or have you participate in activities that wouldn't hurt the injury, but let you stay in the academy.
Anyone could pull a muscle or take a wrong step and twist an ankle.

VASAteve gave you good advice. It is different for me as I love running and I can't go a few days without running and when I run it is for a min of 4 miles... Just grab your mp3 player and go running. runnerworld.com had an excellent article which stated that 80%-90% of your running should be longer distance slower pace. seems no one likes the VSP on these forums...
but anyway, more bad news today...
we lost an officer over the weekend to gunfire, its been posted in the officer down forum...
and today we lost another officer candidate... friday's PT session was a tough one from what i hear... lucky for a few of us, we didnt have to PT because we have performed at an optimal level from day one Sgt. said ... not to mention the rain, and colder weather in the area friday may have had something to do with his decision...
from 35 to 25.
down to 25 total candidates.

5 mile runs are a good simulation of our academy runs...
but dont forget to add your entire PT session before the run ;)
i think we did about 330 reps of belly busters along with our regular PT (15-60 reps depending on exercises) then ran like 4-5miles.
be prepared brother... thats all i can really say...
if you dont prepare or you are a flop, not only will you pay, but everyone around you will pay for your inabilities as well. then next thing you know, your classmates may have a chip on their shoulders when they are around you...

What college class? Are you talking about Calculus based Probability(requires Theories from Calc III) or Psych 101??? It depends on what college class you are talking about!
I assume you are talking about any academy not just Steve's academy. If so, then it depends on a lot of variables: Is it residential? Do they add more stress by kicking you out if you fail an exam? If so it doesn't matter how easy or hard it is because the stress of losing your job over an exam can freak some people out. A lot of academies pass everyone; they simply retest the recruits who fail until the pass...

May lose 2 more for shooting also. Norfolk has a higher standard than the state for shooting, have to score a 76 vice a 70 for state and they all have to be in the bottle for the Q target. CPD is a very strenuous academy, both physically and mentally challenging. I work for the beach and we had an Officer in my academy class (10+ years ago) come over from Chesapeake and laughed at ours. I thought ours was hard,
He mentioned the mind games, the length and the PT part. I'm sure they have changed things, but he was saying they had no end time, Different sets of instructors would come out AM and PM and that was part of the game. 5-5:30 would come and they would have a new set of instructors start another PT session. They would end very late and have a quick turnaround. It actually reminds me a great deal of the way we run a SWAT school.
"HIT THE LOT" are famous word throughout the area departments. I was out there a few years ago for a class and saw some of it first hand! They are hard on the recruits. No doubt!
Good Luck.

I don't get it. If people didn't like VASteve's "cocky" attitude (I didn't find it cocky at all), why can't they just avoid this thread? I personally thought there was benefit in this thread.
People should be responsible for their own actions. If they know someone has an attitude they don't agree with, just avoid the thread, and go on their merry way. Don't whine about it.

I don't think VASteve deleted the thread due to anyone on here but rather someone who is a part of the dept. He would have been just fine had he never mentioned the department he was working for in my opinion.
As far as cocky attitude, I just took it as venting over people who did not prepare themselves to go to the academy. I'm sure any of you who have been to an academy will attest, you spent some time at home complaining to your wife or maybe one of the other recruits about how slack one or more of the other recruits were. Better to vent about it here than to make waves at the academy.

Ahhh that clarifies, thank you. I thought it was people on this forum complaining. My bad!!
And I agree with you, I thought he was just venting as well.
