I just moved back to ND. I am going to school in the spring for Criminal Justice. I talked to the Sheriff here and asked him about possible office jobs just to get my foot in the door somewhere. He suggested that I apply for a Detention Officer job that was opening up. I told him I had no previous LE experience and how could I best study for the exam we have to take. He told me it was pretty much just common sense stuff and there wasnt really a need to study. But I want to do the absolute best I can. Does anyone have any recommendations on study guides or books I can read?

Also, is a Corrections Officer and Detention Officer the same thing?

In Georgia most Detention officer positions are civilian ( non sworn ) . Corrections Officers are Peace Officers and are sworn . Each state is different you can check with your Sheriffs office concerning the status of the position .
