Im 18 years old and this is my 1st DUI (not under alcohol though) I live in Overland Park, Kansas. I got a speeding ticket going 44 in a 25 zone in one city. than a ticket for wreckless driving in another city. and a dui under drugs not alcohol in another city in less than a week. I need major help on what to do. I got the speeding ticket and wreckless out of the way, but im so afaird of my license being suspended cause i work a lot and need to get to school. Does anyone know how it goes from there? Can i apply for a hardship or what? plz reply with questions or answers. ( i blacked out while driving and hit a pole. I was sucking in Dust off- thats how i got the dui)

We can't help you... You need to hire an attorney

What the? What does someone expect when they come in here asking a friggen question like that? Do they expect the police officers in here to tell them how to get out of it? Here is an idea..stop driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol and stop driving like an idiot before you kill someone or yourself.

What the heck is Dust off?

BTW, buy a bicycle as OP is a very nice area and I doubt they keep it that way by letting 18yo kids do what you've done.

You where driving under the inflluence of drugs. You addmit to that, plead guilty. Second request a revocation hearing. You might have a chance on getting a work/school licence.

I got a speeding ticket going 44 in a 25 zone in one city. than a ticket for wreckless driving in another city.

You where traveling at 19 miles over the posted limit. That is going way to fast inside city limits. What did you do to get wreckless driving? More information is needed.

I need major help on what to do. I got the speeding ticket and wreckless out of the way, but im so afaird of my license being suspended cause i work a lot and need to get to school.

One other option is to start walking or ride a bike. Last time I checked you did not need a DL to do either one of them. You made the mistake of being DUI and driving and now it is time to pay for your mistake.

Does anyone know how it goes from there? Can i apply for a hardship or what? plz reply with questions or answers. ( i blacked out while driving and hit a pole. I was sucking in Dust off- thats how i got the dui)

It goes to court and from there I dont know about your state.

Dust-off is that canned air you use to blow off electronic parts with. The stupid teenagers have discovered that the propellant in the can will give you an instant "high". They don't realize it can kill you just as quick.

My advice to bravo03: Turn in your keys and never drive again because obviously you are not mature enough or smart enough to operate a motor vehicle. Get a bike.

Awww, ok, now it makes sense, "huffing", gotcha, thanks! Seems an 18yo could just get some pot but then what do I know

You might want to look into Public Transportation! Why you can even buy monthly bus passes.

I can see one problem in your post bravo03, everything is about you. Everything you're saying is "me, me, me" What you are failing to realize is that when you got high by huffing dust-off and got behind the wheel of your car, you were putting everyone else on the road in danger.

You say you hit a pole. You should be thankful that was the only thing you hit. Could you have lived with yourself had you hit a family traveling in their car, or a child who had been too close to the road?

It seems to me, and it looks like the majority of the other posters in this thread agree, that you need to look into other forms of transportation. I don't believe that you are mature enough to be driving an automobile.

As for what you should do, get an attorney, cop a plea, and accept whatever punishment the court hands to you.

Kid you OBVIOUSLY have problems. First , your huffing while your driving and by yourself no less. Not only are you killing brain cells you could kill someone else. The fact that your alone and doing it, REALLY shows you have problems.

Next welcome to the cycle! The cycle of stupidity! You will or SHOULD lose your license. You certainly won't get or have insurance anymore unless mommy and daddy pay a HUGE price for you. So what's next ..... since your in the cycle you'll do what all the other knuckleheads do, you'll drive again, cautiously at first, but you'll eventually get cocky and drive like your old self. You'll get caught, your car will be impounded, you'll skip out on court cause your tired of paying the city money. You'll get some dumb person to let you drive their car, you'll drive, you'll get caught, and go to jail, HMMMMM.

When your 30 you'll wonder why the hell it's so expensive for YOU to have a car.

Want advise: Take you lumps. Plead guilty, pay your dues, learn from it, don't do it again, don't drive like an *****, (your not qualifing for Indy) oh yeah and most importantly quit the drugs.

OR don't ...... We'll be happy to take you to jail!

When you got to court, just tell the judge that you were under the influence of drugs, not alcohol, so it's okay. He should dismiss your case. Glad I could help.

Your a danger to everyone on the road! You should get your license taken away because you obviously can't make the right choices. What if insteat of hitting a pole you hit another car and killed someone? Not to mention one of us standing on the side of the road on a traffic stop! YOUR 18 ACT LIKE IT!

This is one of those times where you need to sit down and say to yourself; WTF was I thinking? Followed by some serious self reflection on why you do not want to end up in the Penitentiary or dead in a gutter somewhere. Then I would suggest going in and pleading guilty to every single one of those charges, because you deserve every one of them, and *maybe* the judge might show you some compassion.

The best thing that could happen to you is that you lose your license for an extended period of time and you go to jail for a couple of months. That would be the best thing because if you are huffing Dust-off you are being incredibly foolish and immature. You can cause permanent brain damage and liver damage with a single dose.

Some jail time and the inconvenience of losing your license might be what you need to get over what is almost certain to become a fatal case of cranial rectosis. I can only hope that if you don

Lenience should not be a consideration. Your conduct warrants the loss of your driving privileges and jail time.

Well if you pay for your insurance, you better start taking a donations now. Hell look at it this way if you don't drive you will not have to pay some money

Expensive insurance + Gas prices + No license driver = Saving a lot of money, Maybe a life or two and getting a work out while walking/biking.

If the judge allows you to drive to work and school then he is also doing some drugs. Maybe you can go back into his chambers and get high.

One more thing, I sure hope its not to cold for you to walk in Kansas in another couple of months.

(This is not my story, but one that was passed on to me from a fellow officer. The abuse of the canned air seems to be on the rise. I have had numerous DUI's involving it along with encounters with subjects using it.)

First I'm going to tell you a little about me and my family. My name is Jeff. I am a Police Officer for a city which is known nationwide for its crime rate. We have a lot of gangs and drugs. At one point we were # 2 in the nation in homicides per capita. I also have a police K-9 named Thor. He was certified in drugs and general duty. He retired at 3 years old because he was shot in the line of duty. He lives with us now and I still train with him because he likes it. I always liked the fact that there was no way to bring drugs into my house. Thor wouldn't allow it. He would tell on you The reason I say this is so you understand that I know about drugs. I have taught in schools about drugs. My wife asks all our kids at least once a week if they used any drugs. Makes them promise they wont.

I like building computers occasionally and started building a new one in February 2005. I also was working on some of my older computers. They were full of dust so on one of my trips to the computer store I bought a 3 pack of DUST OFF. Dust Off is a can of compressed air to blow dust off a computer. A few weeks later when I went to use one of them they were all used. I talked to my kids and my two sons both said they had used them on their computer and messing around with them. I yelled at them for wasting the 10 dollars I paid for them. On February 28 I went back to the computer store. They didn't have the 3 pack which I had bought on sale so I bought a single jumbo can of Dust Off. I went home and set it down beside my computer.

On March 1st, I left for work at 10 PM. Just before midnight my wife went down and kissed Kyle goodnight. At 530 am the next morning Kathy went downstairs to wake Kyle up for school, before she left for work. He was propped up in bed with his legs crossed and his head leaning over. She called to him a few times to get up. He didn't move. He would sometimes tease her like this and pretend he fell back asleep. He was never easy to get up. She went in and shook his arm. He fell over. He was pale white and had the straw from the Dust Off can coming out of his mouth. He had the new can of Dust Off in his hands. Kyle was dead.

I am a police officer and I had never heard of this. My wife is a nurse and she had never heard of this. We later found out from the coroner, after the autopsy, that only the propellant from the can of Dust off was in his system. No other drugs. Kyle had died between midnight and 1 AM

I found out that using Dust Off is being done mostly by kids ages 9 through 15. They even have a name for it. It's called dusting. A take off from the Dust Off name. It gives them a slight high for about 10 seconds. It makes them dizzy. A boy who lives down the street from us showed Kyle how to do this about a month before. Kyle showed his best friend. Told him it was cool and it couldn't hurt you. Its just compressed air. It cant hurt you. His best friend said no.

Kyle was wrong. It's not just compressed air. It also contains a propellant called R2. Its a refrigerant like what is used in your refrigerator. It is a heavy gas. Heavier than air. When you inhale it, it fills your lungs and keeps the good air, with oxygen, out. That's why you feel dizzy, buzzed. It decreases the oxygen to your brain, to your heart. Kyle was right. It cant hurt you. IT KILLS YOU. The horrible part about this is there is no warning. There is no level that kills you. It's not cumulative or an overdose; it can just go randomly, terribly wrong. Roll the dice and if your number comes up you die. ITS NOT AN OVERDOSE. Its Russian Roulette. You don't die later. Or not feel good and say I've had too much. You usually die as your breathing it in. If not you die within 2 seconds of finishing "the hit." That's why the straw was still in Kyle's mouth when he died. Why his eye's were still open

The experts want to call this huffing. The kids don't believe its huffing. As adults we tend to lump many things together. But it doesn't fit here. And that's why its more accepted. There is no chemical reaction. no strong odor. It doesn't follow the huffing signals. Kyle complained a few days before he died of his tongue hurting. It probably did. The propellant causes frostbite. If I had only known.

Its easy to say hey, its my life and I'll do what I want. But it isn't. Others are always effected. This has forever changed our family's life. I have a hole in my heart and soul that can never be fixed. The pain isso immense I cant describe it. There's nowhere to run from it. I cry all the time and I don't ever cry. I do what I'm supposed to do but I don't really care. My kids are messed up. One wont talk about it. The other will only sleep in our room at night. And my wife, I cant even describe how bad she is taking this. I thought we were safe because of Thor. I thought we were safe because we knew about drugs and talked to our kids about them.

After Kyle died another story came out. A Probation Officer went to the school system next to ours to speak with a student. While there he found a student using Dust Off in the bathroom. This student told him about another student who also had some in his locker. This is a rather affluent school system. They will tell you they don't have a drug problem there. They don't even have a dare or plus program there. So rather than tell everyone about this "new" way of getting high they found, they hid it. The probation officer told the media after Kyle's death and they, the school, then admitted to it. I know that if they would have told the media and I had heard, it wouldn't have been in my house.

We need to get this out of our homes and school computer labs. Using Dust Off isn't new and some "professionals" do know about. It just isn't talked about much, except by the kids. They all seem to know about it.

April 2nd was 1 month since Kyle died. April 5th would have been his 15th birthday. And every weekday I catch myself sitting on the living room couch at 2:30 in the afternoon and waiting to see him get off the bus. I know Kyle is in heaven but I cant help but wonder if I died and went to Hell.

Is it ok for a grown man to cry after reading that?? Holy crap tht sucks.. :(
You cant even say "Ill kill my kid if he does that" that **** should be banned. Find another way to 'propel' it. not with dangerous chemicals....

Some of my friends would do the same thing effectively with gas when I was a kid, banning it will do nothing. The best thing you can do is get this letter out all over the web so people will realize what these kids are doing.
