HCSO is a great agency but I can't give an un bias opinion of them since i work there. TPD is another great agency. I think FHP has some great cops but under staffed. I'm not sure on the other ones.

Palm Beach Sheriff - Excellent agency
West Palm Beach PD - Excellent agency

Don't know about the others, I live in Palm Beach County so I can only tell you about those.

Sanford is a crap town. Department runs call to call.

Winter Park. Great department. IMO best in Orange county, 3rd in pay.

Maitland. Good department (do a search of the old threads or member Mait128) borders Eatonville so they do generally assist them. Do alot off traffic of I-4.

Altamonte. Good mix. They generate alot of calls because of 436 running through it and the many shopping centers it has.

Seminole SO, good agency but losing alot of jurisdiction to city agencies because of annexation.

Orange SO.. Eh.. So-so in my book. They have the rule of 4 (4yr degree, 4 yrs military or 4 yrs as a cop).

All the agencies require you to have your FL certification with the exception of OCSO which will send you if your not certified.

I agree. I'm also in Palm Beach County and have heard lots of good things about both agencies. More so W.P.B.D. than the Sheriffs office I think. Either way, they're both well established agencies.

Sanford...good if you want lots of experience with the ghetto life
Winter Park....good if you want a bedroom community, old people, and college kids.
Maitland....Speed trap, they're good at 'em.
Altamonte....Same traffice as Maitland. I wouldn't hire with them except as a last resort, I'd rather go Sanford or even Oviedo. To many politics, F'heads, and egos.
Seminole SO....good group. The Sheriff backs his people more than most places I've seen.

IMO:

Winter Springs is one of the best, along with Lake Mary.

Longwood and Altamonte are the worst.

Where are you a cop in seminole? I grew up in the casselberry/winter park area, and went to high school at Lake Howell.

Winter Park
Oviedo
Chuluota areas

OF: Disagreements are ok. :) I'm soured on AS due to personal run-in's while working with their people (specially the motor and marine units).

Outside of the County, my only other real favorites would be Winter Springs followed by Lake Mary.

Vanatru..Intresting what you stated about Longwood. I was going thru the process with them when I took my current job. Ive always heard decent things about them. Winter Springs, Ive heard ok things but they are not on the state retirement. Lake Mary, great department... but I dont know if I want to work with a Beary (sorry but the sheriff of OC turned me to that name).

Oviedo.. just alittle too much traffic for me.. and I used to work for a department that did tons of traffic.

Longwood is about as useful as tits on a bull.

Oviedo, hate the traffic down there at SR 434 and CR 426 - that intersection along with the churches around it are a nightmare and the new traffic pattern they're trying to install is a pain.

Winter Springs and Casselberry are not part of FRS. To bad really.

Lake Mary is good. :) And Chief Berry seems ok..........though he's a politician just like the rest......and the LM mayor and deputy mayor are........something else.

Casselberry is a good place to start not a big agency its a regular size agency. You have alot of different things happening. If you like traffic you can do traffic if you like getting into things you can do it. But only bad thing is it starts to seem the same after awhile. 436/ 17-92 you see alot of different people from all walks of life. Osceola county I have not heard alot of but know they have some good start pay. If you are looking for a big city agency with all the works and most of the toys in Seminole County Altamonte would be the way to go. All the other City agencys in Seminole County rely on the County for all the toys.

I did not realize casselberry was not apart of FRS. Ive heard both good and bad about Casselberry and I know they sponser but the pay was horrible during the academy (I think $9.00/$10.00/hr). Geez I remember when Casselberry was all farmland...

Casselberry just had a shakeup last year. The whole city did have a money problem - though the county supported them on the QT. On the bright side, they do have that wonder section over by Winter Park Bl/SR 434/and Diamond area. Oh joy.

Altamonte does have a lot to offer, but I'd be inclined to say Winter Springs will give 'em a run for their money.

Oviedo is a standoff........they've resisted most efforts by the county to be taken over bit by bit county handouts, etc). Rumor has it they might even start up their own animal control to make themselves even more independent from the County.

Every place has it's tradeoffs.

Is Plavis still chief in Casselberry or did they bring in someone new?

Why so many small municipal agencies in the Orlando area. I used to go up there alot to see friends and as far as I remember, Altamonte Springs, Oviedo, Winter Springs, etc. were very close in proximity. Down here in Tampa area we only have TPD, Temple Terrace and Plant City as well as USF and Tampa Intl. Airport. Just curious why so many smaller departments.

A good question to ask the local city council members. Everyone wants to have their finger in the pie and control the money. No city really wants to relenquish control of their more powerful departments. Certainly not to the County, and most definately not to a the local big city of Orlando.

Plavis is still there. Casselberry is like any other place you turn it into whatever you want.

What do you mean "wonder section?"

And I agree, since I grew up in orlando and go to school at USF. In orlando, we just have alot of incorporated small cities, and in Tampa, its almost all either county or Tampa. Even "towns" like Brandon, Cwood, Lutz etc use the HCSO instead of having there own police.
