Western NY is very political. I lived there and could have gotten on because my Father-in-law and Uncle work for the PD and are tied politicaly. However, Buffalo and the surrounding area's are dying. there is no future.

What dept could you have worked for? Yea the outside surrounding areas are falling apart, but if your in, your in. Buffalo has a no-lay off clause in their new contract. Most of the surrounding agencies are o.k except the Sheriff's. However nobody was official laid off yet.

Sheriff,

Lackawanna is were I lived. I hope your not saying Buffalo has no problems. My wife has family on Buffalo and Lackwanna PD and I have friends on both. They do have their issues. They may not lay off but their officers dont get the raises that were negotiated in there contract. The firefighters and the teachers got screwed as well. Every year I go back and all I hear on the news, in the papers and from friends is that the economy sucks, taxes go up, and the job market sucks. Dont get me wrong, I love the Buffalo area. I went to high school and college there. I always look forward to going back every year. the food is great. But Buffalo is a nice place to be from, not live.
