View Full Version : Air Marshal Job Open !
Congratulations to you, too!
I had to call in to the help desk, but received an answer in about 5 minutes. I wasn't really ever nervous to hear of the results until they placed me on hold. haha.
Called the TSA job hotline and found out I passed. Dashboard hasn't been updated yet though. IF anyone else recently took the test I suggest calling if you're anxious.
I just called and found out I passed also, woohoo! I was told to wait for the next email to continue the process, it could be very soon or it could take a while, lol.

I just called the help desk and was told they have no record of my test. I took the test on Monday I hope my stuff doesn't end up in the blackhole they have over there.

I didn't make it...not enough experience in law enforcement and I need to work on the pt portion too. It was an eye opening experience too. If you have any questions about the interview then private message me..I still have two questions of the 5 in my head that I bombed. I'm pretty sure I can talk about the interview..wasn't given a disclosure agreement.
edit part:
law enforcement experience was mentioned in my interview as well as military..it seemed they wanted those type..but just because you don't doesn't mean my situation will equal yours...i personally need to improve and i will before apply next time around..everything is a learning experience
If you don't mind me asking, what exactly in the PT fouled you up? I also thought that previous LE experience didn't weigh THAT heavily upon final hiring decisions?

I'm also curious about what happened with your PT test. Did you not complete it, or just not score well?
Just got an email stating that I passed the battery assessment and will be contacted by the local field office to set up the panel interview and PT test.

I just received an invitation to take the FAMS Assessment Battery.
Does anyone know if there is such thing as a study guide for this?? Also if anyone has taken this before and would like to share what type of questions there are, that'd be great. Thanks!

[QUOTE=BlackSheep77;1899658]It’s one thing if an agent is hurt or working through an injury but to bleatingly blow off a PT test is BS. God forbid I ever actually see an agent do some **** like that because I will taunt and harass them until they have no other option than to do PT or quit.
Hey Blacksheep,
Can you explain what "bleatingly" means? I'm at a loss as to your vocabulary.
But, I can tell you if you try your little "taunting and harassing" game down at Artesia, you will get yourself a blanket party.
Maybe it's you who should reconsider entering the law enforcement profession, from your post it seems you are not mature enough to handle the responsibility, with your "tough guy" mentality. Its one thing to be able to follow orders, its another to have to exercise judgment with little direct supervision in ongoing law enforcement activities.

No study guide. Just get a good night's sleep, good breakfast, and go in with a clear mind. Due to the non-disclosure agreement that has to be signed no one can (should) discuss the questions.

Whats the PT requirements for this job and what experience is needed??? I didn't exactly stumble across this in the thread.
I'm looking to get into police work later down the road and I'm going to be in a community college police academy next year or the following year as a self sponsored student. Just wondering if that make any kind of differnece.

Figured I'd bring this link over from the ICE 1811 thread. It's the budget proposal for DHS.
http://www.dhs.gov/ynews/testimony/testimony_1242246808937.shtm
Interesting note further down the proposal under "Guarding Against Terrorism"...here's the bullet point;
Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response Teams: An increase of $50 million is requested to fund 15 Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) teams dedicated to guarding surface transportation. The VIPR teams contain multi-skilled resources, including Transportation Security Inspectors, canine teams, Transportation Security Officers, Bomb Detection Officers, and Federal Air Marshals. These teams enhance the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) ability to screen passengers, identify suspicious behavior, and act as a visible deterrent to potential terrorists in surface transportation environments.
I guess this is a good sign for those that are looking for expansion of the FAMS.

I just came across this forum a few days ago and there is a ton of good information here. Thanks to all for sharing. I applied beginning of 09 and have made it to the interview/PT day that I have scheduled next week. I don't have any previous law enforcement experience so I know chances are slim to begin with. If anyone could send me a PM with any advice it would be much appreciated.

Well, I'm having the panel and PFT next week --- It's very bittersweet. I'm ecstatic about testing, but freaked about the pull ups. I read this today on another forum. From what this person is saying it sounds like we are wasting our time even interviewing and going through the PT. Any opinions?
After reading your post I am even more confused on the process than I was before. This is what I was able to gather from FAMS....
They have pulled 300 apps for the remaining 150 spots. I interviewed well and was told I would get the highest recommendation and I maxed out on all of the physical stuff. However, I was told I was not one of the 300 pulled. They told me that I was on the fringe and will be in the very next tier of applications pulled if enough of the first batch craps out, but was also advised that I shouldn't count on it. If I am not selected this year for one of those 150 remaining spots, then I will have to reapply in December when they post again.
So why is FAMS still interviewing? The hiring process is greatly improved over years past, so I'm not complaining, but I can't figure out why they are still putting applicants through this so late in the game. I was specifically told that unlike ICE, CBP, BP, etc, there is no pipleline hiring process for FAMS. They hire about 300 a year out of the 15-18 thousand apps so if you don't make the cut, you will have to reapply next year.
So like you I am awaiting to schedule my medical and background. The HR contact I got a hold of went the extra mile for me and told me that if I had to play by the numbers, that I should move on to other opportunities and reapply next year.
williamske
07-22-2009, 05:45 PM
I also spoke with someone in HR and was told that they are looking to fill 2 classes for the remaining year.
I do not know months or dates. I just know there are two left. He said that I should take my assessment asap for because their FO has spots that they need to fill.
That's all I know. I just know it sucks I cannot take the assessment until the 24th due to travel related to work. But I will get it done.

Hey Guys, I just found this site but I thought I might let all you guys know how my process has been going. I have my Interview, SAC interview, and PTA next thur. on the 30th. I was told by the marshal who contacted me that if I pass I should finish all the other stuff within the next month. I already have a TS clearence so I shouldn't have to much trouble with the SF-86. Below is my time line. He also stated they are trying to push a bunch of guys quick before the end of the fiscal year which is Sep 30.
24 Jan 09-Application Recieved
18 Jun 09-Met Quals
19 Jun 09-Tenative Offer
19 Jun 09-Criminal/Credit Check
13 Jul 09-FAMS assessment Battery (I called that evening and found out I passed. So if you guys take it and dont want to wait, they can tell you if you passed or failed by calling the 1-888 number)
30 Jul 09-Panel/SAC interview/PTA-
I am also in the process with the FBI and ICE. FAMS are moving a whole lot faster than these agenicies. I have a family member who is also in ICE and he said alot of agencies are pushing to hire alot before the beginning of the next fiscal year b/c they are afraid of a freeze.
Just though I would let yall know what I know.
I'll be doing my panel and PTA the day before you. Best of luck. :)

It was a real quick turnaround for me. I got the email over the weekend and then the call on Monday.
Be aware that when they call for the panel you have the PFT as well. Turnaround from the call to the interview/PFT was 2 weeks for me, but reading the forum you'll see it can be a little as a week.

Should I bring a change of clothes just in case...or do they provide a uniform for testing in?

My email exchange with the Supervisor was very clear and concise; Panel on one day and PFT the next. Bring your own stuff, there is a locker room available. Turn around for me (from battery) was 4 days.

I think it depends on the FO. I was told that I will have the interview, then the PFT and then I guess if you do well in everything you will have an interview with the SAC.

It only took them a week to notify me that I passed the computer assessment and to schedule the panel/pt.
Advice for the panel: just make sure you actually answer their questions, don't rush, relax and make eye contact. If you are having the panel and PT the same day, a pretty good indicator that you passed the panel is if you are taking the PT. My group started with 8 people, but only 6 took the PT because the other 2 didn't pass the panel. After that the process moves pretty fast.

I doubt anyone will answer this because you are told at the end of the interview not to discuss it with anyone...just relax when you go into the interview and think about what they are looking for in a canidate...they want someone who can think on thier feet, someone who is good under pressure and is easy to work with. Basically they (the interviewers) will be asking themselves, would I want to work with this person?

Not sure whether to go on the dashboard and terminate my app or wait it out, go to the interview, and see if they'll keep me in the system perhaps for later, I just don't want to waste their time when I can't commit to working in another city at the present time. Not sure what to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Sorry that it is confirmed for ya. I'm also shocked about LA since it was "open" just two days ago... although Chicago is new. I wouldn't mind that at all.

Don't let it disappoint you! Keep chugging along in the process as your info stays active in the system for up to a year. Who's to say ATL won't be open again within that time frame?

All those places are not so great; high cost of living in all of them that locality doesn't make up for.

I applied for L.A., I was stationed in SoCal for 5 years and loved it. Also, I figured I'd have a better chance because I thought it might be one of least desired locations. The thought of being assigned to some of these other places is not very appealing to me at all! What are you guys basing your info on? Speaking to someone at HR?

I am basing the info off what HR told me this morning. I had left a voicemail yesterday about the Aug 15 cutoff and HR called back. He told me ATL was off the list as well as L.A. as of today. Said those FO's would continue to process but the actual assignment would be elsewhere. He is the one that told me Chicago, NYC, NJ, or Washington. Now I'm not sure what to do for my situation.

Those that are in the process, they have thrown out the avue lists and are working off of the new lists for all classes next fiscal year. They will be hiring a good amount trust me.

I was told that they're weeding out the bad crop that were hired during the mass hire of '01. They need replacements...
You’re kidding me right? That was very disrespectful to the guys who have been doing this job for 8 years now. They are not weeding out the guys who are here now. The guys and gals who are here are professional individuals and have been fighting a losing battle since 2001. The truth is that they can’t keep us here. After about 3 years FAMs normally leave for other jobs. So it is a matter of attrition and not weeding the bad FAMs out. Give me your full name and I will make sure you never get a job here.

It will be years before you will get a transfer since it will be based on your hire date. So that means the other 5 thousand (not sure the number) FAMs will be in front of you for a transfer.

Got my call today to schedule my panel and PT - scheduled for Aug. 10th. Looks like I will be doing the panel, then the PT, and then get cleaned up to interview with the SAC.
Very excited to be moving along so quickly. For anyone who already went in - is the SAC interview a continuation of the panel? Or informational?
If that is unanswerable due to the non-disclosure agreement, no worries. Just wondering what that step was meant for.

Another good point...there are guys that were hired in '01 and '02 that have been trying to transfer to another office and have been unable due to various things such as staffing levels....some of these offices that guys wanted to transfer to got new hires....its a touchy subject with some.

Hey everyone! I was browsing the forums and located this one. I am also in the FAM process and have my PFT/Panel Interview on Monday in Denver. I have never, once, been disrespectful on these boards, and that was not my intention. I was just relaying what I was told, you think I seriously know (as far as first hand account), no. I apologize if you took it in that manner, but the good news is that if you're good at what you do then no worries!
There are some questions that are obviously better answered by current FAMS! Thanks for taking the time to come in here and let us pick your brains.

Well despite being notified that I passed the Credit/Crimimal Check on July 9th, and that I should have received notice to schedule the CBT, I never recieved information to schedule it.
Despite calling TSA HR 3 times a week for three weeks so I could schedule my test and find out why I never got a scheduling email and why the Dashboard only shows in progress for the CBT, I received a nice email yesterday telling me that the TSA is sorry for "a number of miscues" and "IT issues" that my COE will be rescinded and I am welcome to reapply when a new vacancy is annouced.
I find it amazing that the TSA is going to rescind the conditional offer when I never received instructions to schedule the test and attempted for the last 3 weeks to remedy the problem.
Deuce, that's definitely frustrating. Don't let it keep you down though!
FYI, I've been working with HR to get the dashboard up to speed with where I'm at in the process (It says I still need to complete the battery assessment, currently I have passed the PFT/panel). They just got back to me today and said that the dashboard will most likely not work for the rest of my process and they are still working out bugs in the system.
Just thought I'd throw that out there in case others are having issues w/ the dashboard.

I took my Panel last week and was supposed to take the PT the same day. Before the panel I was told they would not have PT that day. Then a day or so later I heard people were getting e-mailed about a deadline for the panel/pt. Am I the only one waiting for a phone call to do the PT, because if the 15th rolls around and I haven't taken it then I'm done according to the e-mail that I didn't receive.

I would definitly keep calling someone to push to get that done by the 15th. Seems like a pretty universal email that they sent out. I would call the lady/gentleman who contacted you about the interview date. I would think that they would be your best contact at this point.

For you guys on the job, or anyone that knows for sure, how does LEAP pay work? Is it a standard 25% addition to your regular pay or is it just for the hours you put in over 40? I know the locality pay is in addition to your regular pay but I am not sure about the LEAP. Just curious what the pay would be if/when I make it. When will the current "list" expire? I spoke to my interviewing FO today and they advised that my PFT will most likely be scheduled for sometime toward the end of next week.
2nd Question: As a result of them cutting out this class will they now carry over the list of everybody currently in the process for classes next fiscal year (which begins in October)?...Or will they everybody reapply next Jan/Feb (or whenever they decide to post the '10 announcement?).

Do your best. Let the instructors see that you are trying your hardest. Just keep telling yourself during the run it's only 1.5 miles, its 9 or 10mns of your life that can lead to a rewarding career. Aside from that, anyone in or interested in LE should be able to do 1.5 miles with little problem. Running always has and always will be part of being a LEO.
