I got the email offer, computer test, and did the interview a week ago...i was told right after the interview that i will be notified by HQ regarding results and that i could go home...but others who were also there stayed for the PT....while im pretty sure that was my rejection... i would say you are on the right track. ;)

I also got the COE today and I'm all set up in the Candidate Dashboard. I'm part of the 08 crowd and I also applied under the 09 vacancy. They gave me until the 25th of this month to accept the offer which I've already accepted. How long does it take for the CBT to be scheduled? If anyone knows. Is it a quick thing? Should I be expecting a phone call or email with a test date anytime soon?

Good evening all
I recieved the conditional last night under the 2009 announcement, however this was my second coe. I applied back in 2006 when avue tech was doing the hiring. i was now told lockhead martin/tsa is now doing the hiring. I originally completed the fingerprints, oral inter, pysch papers, mental healt cert, drug test, and finally when i recieved the medical paperwork is when the vaccancy closed. so all the steps i completed mean nada!!!

Now I talked to the atl fo where I am and they advised me that I had to do all the steps over, so i waiting all over again. by the way i am a leo here in atl ga.

good luck to all

8 weeks in NM, closet major airport is 4 hours away.
8 weeks in AC, closet major airport is PHL, 1 hour away.

Weekends off but be back in time for training. Its big boy rules, not like state academies where its paramilitary/high stress.

If you are squared away and on point...the feds leave you alone for the most part. Note, I am not a FAM but federal training is pretty standard. The only major exception would be BP.

The closest airport isn't 4 hours away, there's an airport in Roswell, it may be a puddle jumper but it's a LOT faster than driving.

Roswell is 45 minutes away but the flights are only to Dallas, you have to drive to Albuquerque, which is 4 hours away, for a major airport.

I also think the training was extended 2+ additional weeks beginning this year.

I faxed these forms 2 different times!!!!!!!!! The first was with the appl. and the second was when they called to say they didn't get it the first time. I even have fax verification that they got it! How fu@ked up is DC.? The best part is I still haven't heard anything from the 2008 application(finished everything!) waiting on offer!

Good luck to anyone who gets in! As I have said in one of my last posts, if this is the sh@t you have to go through prior to even getting the job - and this is how the whole service is run, you can have it! This whole FAM thing has taken 3 years of my life playing the hurry and wait game. Dude....don't take this wrong BUT all your answers are in this thread. Its a huge thread.....but they are all there.....

You will spend 8 weeks in Artiesa, NM training THEN 10 weeks in Atlantic City, NJ training.....End of story.....This isn't the USMC where they send folks from one part of the US to training in CA and the others to NC..... EVERYONE goes to New Mexico....then EVERYONE goes to Atlantic City...then you go back to the FO that you were hired to work out of.......and get to work.....

The US Gov will pay for you to fly from where you are at to the training sites, pay for you food/lodging while you are training.....and surprisingly enough..... the US Gov will pay you a salary while you are training.......

Question for you guys that just got a TO. Have you gone in and completed your E-Qip?

I have had to complete the e-Qip in the past (for a diff job) and it took a call into them to get the golden questions reset to "unknown" so that I could enter. Maybe I am just trying to stay ahead of the game here, because the e-mail didn't say to go in and complete it.

You can't go back into E-Qip until you get a "invite" from your new or current sponsor.....

So, unless the FAMs tell you to....you will be unable to update....

That's standard for all US Gov agancies....

I searched most of the threads trying to find more on this and didn't see it: I also rec'd my CO about a week ago and am looking forward to the rest of the process. If training is in NJ & NM for 14 or 18 weeks (I saw both), are you permitted leave on weekends to fly home if desired, or required to remain on premesis for the entire duration?

Another unrelated question I've tried to find the answer to: I applied through the ATL posting and listed only ATL as desired FO on the app and got a CO from the January opening. Could I expect to get hired to ATL if successful through the remainder of the process? Thanks for the help.

thanks. good thing I didn't kick him off! I doubt it would ever happen again, but I'd have to just get the flight recrewed... or just sit there on the taxiway until he complied. Positioning and repositioning flights, didn't know you guys could hitch a ride on those. Thats interesting. Sometimes we don't have FAs on those flights, I wouldn't care but I wonder how that would work.

I get a lot more federal LEOs traveling armed than anything else. Lots and lots of USSS, for some reason. Once had a dept of agriculture LEO, and then once the sheriff of some place in LA. I wonder if the sheriff actually needed his piece, but as far as I am concerned the more the merrier.

Do you guys remember the Arab-American Secret Service agent who was kicked off a flight by a major carrier as he was headed to Crawford on assignment? The guy had a book written in Arabic in his carry-on and he made a couple to minor mistakes on his Flying Armed paperwork, but he had full creds and a phone call to his boss confirmed his assignment. I know how that one ended and it wasn't pretty for the airline personnel involved.

I was just approved to post on the forum this morning.

I received TO on 6/18/09 and accepted. I registered on dashboard and currently my status is on criminal/credit check as of 6/19/09.

I am a woman with no law enforcement background. Graduated college in 2007 with a Bachelors degree. I majored in global studies. I currently work for the feds, DoD, as a technical writer. I've always wanted to get into law enforcement.

I am 5'4 and 126lbs. But I have been circuit training and working out for the past year at least 5 times a week. I will probably not be able to do many, if any, pull ups.

I am hoping to go through the entire process, but I would not be suprised if I was shot down due to not having any previous law enforcement experience.

I came to this board to engage in general discussion regarding the hiring process.

Ok everyone,

So I've got a question. What's up with this "Candidate Dashboard"? I just got off the px with the ATSAC from the FO I applied through inquiring as to my status. I'm an April 08 applicant and completed my panel interview, PT, fingerprinting and drug screen in March 2009. I passed all of them and submitted my transcripts and SF-50 to DC at their request and haven't heard anything since. In talking to the ATSAC, he advised he doesn't know anything about hiring status and that LM is still in the process of getting the dashboard up and running. When I advised him that apparently it already was and that many applicants were already accessing it, he came acroos with a tone of doubt and disbelief. He said that he doubted anyone would have access to it yet in light of the fact the FAMS recruiters had not been informed of it and that there was a conference call scheduled later this week to address the status of the dashboard. I was essentially told this is the Fed. and things take awhile and they can't hire 15,000 applicants at once. I assured him I had experience with that and was well aware of the way the Fed works and that I was just inquiring if he could update me since I processed out of his office and had met with him face to face. Oh well!

Anyone have any thoughts on the dashboard? Is it only accessible once you get an invite from LM or is there a web address I can visit and check my status?

Thanks and stay safe!

My credit was also pulled on 6/24/09. Report Inquiry Stated: "EMPL-KROLL FACTUAL DATA"

Hopefully this is good a good sign, being that they've processed it so quickly after sending the COE/TO last week.

So the TSO that was rushed to the hospital has now passed away, how sad

Quick question for those of you that had credit pulled - what reporting agency got the inquiry? My report only uses Experian and I wanted to see if the other two major companies were used as it won't show up as an inquiry on my report.

It's taken on a case by case basis which will be likely addressed during the BI, if and when that happens. I believe this part of the credit/criminal check is for automatic dis-qualifiers.

Word is the next class in Artesia starts 29 July. At least that is what I’ve been told. I have an EOD of 20 July at the WFO.

As far at the questions about PT tests go, yes, you have to take one. Do yourself a favor and get in at least a little shape before you take it. You may not have to be a PT stud but the FAMs running it certainly didn’t think highly of the pukes who couldn’t hack it.

From what I understand there were 17000 applicants, 400-450 positions available and they were looking to hire within DHS first because the transition is faster. If you’re coming in from outside the GOVT then it may be a minute but with a little luck you might squeak through.

….and WTF is up with that Congressman! Jack *** wanted to seize on some bad apples and now I feel like a jack *** trying to justify why I’m leaving my current job for this one. Whatever, it’s “Game On” 20 July one way or another!

As for me, this is my first post. I’m prior service (Army Infantry), no LEO experience and looking to get out from behind this desk I’ve been shackled to for the last 6 months.

In some cases (but apparently not all), the link to access the dashboard was sent along with the COE (first step in the process before even the credit check or computer test). No login information was needed as accessing the link, you provide your SSN and then choose your own login name and password and your info is already in there.

This is true but keep in mind OT is coming! Once the OT Lawsuit is completed, clarification will be sought on what is and isn't LEAP for a FAM. Without getting into how the portal (schedule) works to much, must say to the FAMS credit they have been and are working on making it better, but are still struggling.

Sometimes you have weekends off sometimes you don't. There have been several times when I have planned to do something on a Friday or Saturday night only to get stuck somewhere due to flight delays and cancellations. Maintaining a normal social life is difficult because your days off are constantly rotating.

They should just redesign planes so that the only way to get into the cockpit is via a exterior door, so you can only get in and out when landed.

Or the responsibility to hire a security officer to be on each and every plane be with the airlines.

If people think tyhe flying public is going to stand back and watch hijackers take over a plane to do like 9/11, lets be honest with each other here. It will not happen, although FAMS is another deterent, just like hardened cock pits doors and screeners etc.... nothing is perfect or fail proof. Problem is you pay to retrofit aircraft once and you pay FAMS 3 x's what a screener gets paid, to cover how many flights? I think thats what is being said in a very rude way by the congress person.

But I agree FAMS are here to stay, how many and what configuration becomes the question.

Compared to other agencies, FAMS does not seem to have a website that details out the entire process (at least not that I can find).

The training is like a structured college curriculum. While at Artesia it is relaxed for the most part with structured PT and classes. They go by "big boy" rules for the most part. You will see the border patrol candidates standing in formation, marching, getting smoked, and catching public *** chewings. We do not have to endure that. In ACY (Atlantic City) it is also structured and depending on who the class adviser is determines how laid back it will be. The training can be intense at times but for the most part it is a breeze. The most important part is to be open minded and have a good attitude, especially if you are a prior leo.

I think its a psych exam, so there's no real way to study. You are what you are... (please correct me if I'm wrong and there's more to the test)

Hahah, I know, when I was waiting for my conditional offer I thought that it went to my spam too and I deleted by accident. Good thing it came through a couple of days later.

I am also scheduled for the exam!

It sounds like some people didn't get the email with the link to the candidate status board, I have heard from a friend of my who is also applying that his first email didn't contain the link, but he got a second one that provided him with the link to the candidate status board.

Read the description for the prep for FAMS, then read the one for the USSS, then the FBI.....its the same thing, save your money.

can't really prepare for it, just a good night's sleep, good breakfast, go in with a clear head. oh yea TAKE YOUR TIME and don't be afraid to use all of the time given to you, which is 3 hours I believe.

I thought it was simple, completed in 45 minutes and there was a 10 minute mandatory break in between. I left after 55 minutes and passed but I highly recommend using all of the allotted time, since there is no penalty for using all of the time.

I took the test on Saturday and was told I would get the results either that night or sometime Monday. Still waiting...hopefully I'll get the email by tonight.

As far as the earlier question about how to dress, I wore business casual and I was the only one there other than the lady administering the test. The first thing she said was, "You didnt have to get all dressed up for me, you could have come in your pajamas" lol. I would still recommend at a least a nice shirt and pants.

Yeah, these are just testing centers that administer tests of all kinds. They are not a federal entity, just a location to test for certifications and/or for new hires by a company (or in our case, the gov't).

There has been abundance of discussion on dress code in the process for various agencies; personally I follow a standard that if the step that your on has "interview" or "panel" in the name or you know you will be answering questions in a person to person(s) situation than by all means wear a suit. In fact, don't just wear "a" suit, wear a good suit.

But if I'm going in to take a test where I'm not talking to human beings who are going to be assessing me, than I see no need to be "that guy" and wear a 3 piece to do some bubble sheets, or type on a computer. And I don't see agencies looking at those candidates badly either.

That said; its usually better to overdress than underdress, but using personal judgement is important as well.

Thanks, I definitely wore a good suit when I had my POST ( for Secret Service UD) and TEA (for Secret Service SA), but I since I'm out of the WFO they scored them right there and moved us for initials.

I'm hoping my preparation for the TEA and POST will pay off for this FAMS Battery... especially if this battery doesn't ask me to do complex interest rate calculations!

So relieved to hear that.....

I think it is useless to compare time lines because there are many differences between yourself and others before you. The most influential factor I have observed is the applicant's current occupation. For example, it is needless to say many posters on the forum are also currently employed in the law enforcement community, whether it be city, state, or federal. It is an understatement to say that this factor is a determining factor facilitating an applicant's velocity throughout the process.

I was there during this time of year. I would recommend going on some of the excursions they offer on the weekends. The caverns are neat as well as the lakes trip. Roswell is a dive so I would avoid that altogether. There is always The Whalehead in town, they have great salsa and cold beer. Aside from that, workout and rest. Once you get done with training your body will become messed up so get your rest while you can and develop a workout routine that you can stick with. Otherwise, enjoy training I personally thought Artesia was more pleasurable than ACY as for as structure, accommodations, etc...

Good luck.

It’s one thing if an agent is hurt or working through an injury but to bleatingly blow off a PT test is BS. God forbid I ever actually see an agent do some **** like that because I will taunt and harass them until they have no other option than to do PT or quit. Maybe it’s the Army Infantryman in me talking but any federal agent who is charged with protecting the American people needs to take pride in their job and do it best they can. I’ve noticed a lot of questions about the PT test on here over the last few weeks I’ve been reading the forum and I’m a little surprised. It seems to me that people are really scared of it. It’s a breeze and if you can’t score at least in the fair to good categories now then you should really consider a career as something other than a law enforcement officer.

This is the FAM PT test:

Pull Ups
Sit Ups
Push Ups
1.5 Mile Run

The scores you need to get can be found here: https://tsa.vitapowered.com/Forms/PhysicalTrainingAssessment.pdf

This post may not make me any friends but I’ve seen too many people tip toe around this issue. It’s a point of pride and respect for one’s responsibilities.
