I sent in a bunch of faxed docs for the old process, maybe they still have those on file.
The next step i was told was that your packet goes in front of a hiring panel or selectee person and then you get a EOD,,,,,were almost there

Hey everybody,
New to the forum. I see a lot of people are from the east coast. Any word on the west coast hiring? I just submitted my application. 14 year military vet with no LE experience however I was a flight engineer for 8 years. Do you think that will help get me a positon, or is it better to have LE experience?

As far as the 50 goes for DC, I don't think you have to process out of DC to get DC. So, those 50 could come from anywhere in the nation I would guess. When I was in Denver I was told that a lot of the guys who had been picked up recently where going to San Francisco. Does not matter where you test. Last info I heard was over 300 positions still to fill, and have been told that they will be picking up people from the old announcment now (not sure when calls are going out, but hey). Have also been told that at some point they will get rid of the old pool and go to the new pool only, so if you have not apply for both. I just received my conting. letter for new process today, and am complete with the old process.

Well I guess I'll post after lurking for a couple months. I like many others on here am former USMC. I applied under the old annoc. and that process seemed to stall.
I have since reapplied. Had the phone int.,COE,panel int and have the PTA next week. All this in a month and a half. I had a short "secondary" interview with #2 in command at the field office. He pretty much laid it out as luck and timing when and if you get hired. He said HQ does all the hiring they just put the packets together and ship'em. He seemed to think all the hiring was going to come out of the new anc. but he didn't know for sure. On a bright note one of the FAMs from my panel addressed me later in the break room and said I should be very happy with myself because I did excellent on my panel. Hopefully that helps.........

What I have sifted from these forums and my own experience it appears they are hiring 300-400 FAMs and hope to have them filled by the end of the fiscal year because of concerns of another hiring freeze. Each area headquarters gathers the packet information and sends it to Washington DC for review by the hiring panel. It appears they hope to start making job offers in the next couple of weeks to keep the ball rolling in hopes of having start dates towards the end of June beginning of July.
It does seem each headquarters did a few things different in the order of how they completed the process. For example, our group did not do fingerprints and our panel interviews were a different time than our PT and paper tests. One person described the PT tests as just wanting to make sure a person did not give up and would be there for the team. But, a separate person said they will have an impact on the final rankings because there are so many good candidates.
I think we are all now in the waiting game and hope we start receiving phone calls next week.
Good Luck!!!

my issue is that I'm about to hit the H band next month at the FAA and that I have to commute so far on my days off to go home from work at FAMS. Calling BS on most of that article, it made is seem the FAMS are asking any screener if they want to join then handing over a Sig.
Just like any other agency the FAMS have issues but it's not that bad. Here is the problem, cops like to complain more than most and the media loves a juicy story. During my UD days I had to listen to people b*tch all shift and would tell anyone who would listen. Some of the most miserable people you would ever meet, I am sure many of these former FAMS fall into that catagory. Not saying they don't have legit gripes but it's only one side of the story.

When you go they read you a long statement advising not to talk about or give out any information about the interview. The only advise that I can give is for you to be yourself. So do you all think they are still picking from the old announcement?
I completed my panel on May 07, Medical & UA, and PTA, and also met with the FO SAC, all in March. I have gotten a few calls from HQ for DD214 info, but nothing since March 27.
Praying for an EOD...
I was told yesterday that they are still hiring off the old announcement, but not for much longer.

Guys,
Sorry for the depressing news.
I am one of applicants from the OLD announcement. It seems like this is the end of road for me. I got the Thanks but no Thanks Email from FAMS last night. I finished all the process on March 08 and I was just waiting to hear from the hiring panel’s decision.
I guess I got the **THE END** instead of the **THE CALL** :).
It was worth the Shot. I got to meet some pretty good people during the process which I hope I continue keep in contact with. Thanks everyone for keeping this post going. It sure kept me from going crazy during the process..
Good Luck Everyone!!

From what I have heard we will be hiring a lot more then 50 people this go around the fiscal years doesn't end for 5 more months. They are bringing people in for more offices then DC so yes you have a chance.

I don't know what to tell you. I feel that this is the hardest exercise to "train for," especially when you only have a week or less. Which way are you doing the pull ups (hands facing you or away from you?) If you have only tried one way, try the other. There are tons of exercises you can try to strengthen your pull-up ability, but with a week left...good luck to you.

You can't "fail" the PTA, there is not a certain level of performance/points you need to "pass".
But...If you stink up the joint and others do well, it will not help your cause. Not trying to be a d*ck, but if LE is you chosen profession you should be in shape. Keep in mind that many of the FAMS brass are former USSS-SA's, the two organizations closely mirror each other (mission, duty weapons, PT standards/events) I know from my USSS days PT ability is seen as reflection on the agency...even though they can't DQ someone based on that reason...it will give them a reason to look for other things.

My only advice is give it 110% and do not give up no matter what you feel like. You want to show them you are a teamplayer and you will not let your fellow team members down.
Good luck!

thanks for the info. as far as training for pullups, yea, its not going to happen in a week. but i know that ill be working on it from now on, and eventually ill be good. ive been practicing both ways, palms in and palms out ...bar hang, and negative pullups (starting in hang position and slowly releasing myself down ) i heard thats another way to prepare ...
i know being in shape is part of the job, and i definitely consider myself more in shape than most women i know .... the run, pushups and situps i will do well in. however, pullups are not an area women traditionally excel in. most LE jobs that are trying to recruit women have elminated that as a criteria and substituted it with something else ... or made them optional ... i just hope they realize that i can still do the job without doing a pullup. And if they really want pullups, then im gonna need a couple weeks ... thnx again

Just put in a solid effort and see what happens. If you get picked up you will be banging out a ton pull-ups by the end of training.

Hello.
I recently found out about the opening for Federal Air Marshal. From what I have read, it seems as though the hiring process is pretty random, and is not consistent with regard to the length of time the whole process takes.
My question is simple. Has anyone gone through the application process in approximately 4 months from start to finish? I turn 37 in August, so I suspect it is too late for me, but thought I would ask anyway. I know it is a long shot with my age, and having no previous law enforcement experience.
Really the only thing I have in my favor is being an accomplished pistol marksman. There isn't much that I can't do with a handgun. If I can see it, I can hit it, and do it pretty quickly. ;)
The one other small thing thing that might work in my favor is that my wife is an ASAC with another agency. I just want to find out if I stand a chance because of my age situation.

Probably cutting it a little close, can you get picked up by UD or some other 0083 that has higher age limit (40) then also apply to FAMS.
You would be covered (6c/12d) so your age would not hurt you for FAMS.

11 May in SFO that's correct. they gave me a choice. However, I have descepencies in my final offer letter. The people I need to talk to are "out" and I'm leaving Wednesday for the middle east until may 10. My boss is also on my case...wanting me to resolve this by tomorrow. If I don't resolve the issues in my offer letter (salary and such), then i'm not going to sign it...meaning a decline

The AVUE Digital Service website listed both;

For whatever reason, the site would only allow me to apply for the "Career Ladder"

Well I got some potentially bad news for people on the old announcement today, if you have not completed everything for the old announcement and had your packet reviewed, you had better apply under the new announcement. There will be no more hiring panels for the old announcement. I just found out today that my packet somehow was "misplaced" and never made it to the hiring panel. So now I guess I start over on the new announcement, I also had my phone interview today for the new announcement.

There is supposed to be a total of 300-350 hired this year, the guys that have been hired so far are off the old announcement. Once you complete your panel and written exercises, and if you pass you will have to do a medical, PTA, fingerprints and BI. Once all that is complete they will send your info off to the hiring panel and a decision will be made, if your stuff makes it to the panel LOL. JK you just have to be patient.

I got that letter back on March 10, 2008 it said
Dear FAM Applicant:
You have been tentiatively selected for a position with Federal Air Marshal Services.
Then it stated that I needed to complete the SF86 within 5 days.
Did you get this too?
I have completed everything... March 24 I finished my PTA and a sort of sit and meet the SAC of the FO. I called HR today, she said that my packet was complete, we had been going back and forth on issues on my DD214. The last time I heard anything was March 27, 2008. I fax info back that was requested. She said today it's in the Hiring Managers now.
So, can we all say a little prayer, "Please Hiring Manager be impressed by my experience and abilities, that my packet gets your approval and I can receive and EOD." Amen....
Thanks...

Its totally true, you had finished your stuff before they stopped doing hiring panels, I said if you hadnt finished all the steps yet that you were SOL. There will still be some people hired off the old announcement but only if all your step are complete.
Roughly the same timeline and also recived the tentatively job offer. got calls left and right.....submitted my transcripts, DD-214, did E-qip and SF86 got send off to the hiring panel, smiles and congrads from everyone i talked too....received the Thanks but no thanks e-mail last week.... not sure what happen? I am in the new process, so far the phone interview and COE #2 finished paper work for the old process and sent off around March 27th. good luck Bombguy congrads on the job!
Sounds like we both are in the same exact situation. Our timelines are the same. I would like to believe that ..Maybe Just Maybe.. that email was generated once they flushed the old announcement?

I recieved the same thing, My SAC in my office said pretty much it is a for sure job offer but they have work to finish on there ends first before you get a EOD.....but in still worried and anxious as all hell,,,,,,,,lol have no nails left
I got the email back on March 10 but I had my panel on the 11th and the PTA on the 12th. Some of the people at that did not pass the interview on the day I interviewed received the email as well. So I would not take it as to sure of a thing.

For those who got the tentative selection email letter (with e-Qip link) - did you have a panel interview before you received it?
I got the tentative selection letter after my phone interview (around Mar. 10) and haven't had a panel interview yet.
I'm just trying to figure out if/when I'll be scheduled for a panel interview...or if some field offices are skipping the panel interview all together???
through the posts ive seen on the forums, its seems like this is a NY/NJ thing (by thing i mean sending the emails/requesting BI forms BEFORE scheduling the panel)...for most other people across the country it seems to be vice versa, panel FIRST, and then the forms...jus gotta keep playing the waiting game bro.

I thought that I read the email clearly but....I received the COE and accepted same. I had the phone interview and was told that I would hear from the FO next. Is the tentative offer letter with the SF86 attached different from the COE letter? I am assuming it is but this process seems to go in several different directions at once. Thanks.

Yes, the tentative offer letter/email comes after the COE. It includes a link to fill out an SF-86 online.
I was confused because I got the tentative letter before a panel interview, whereas others have had their panel interview first.

Wow, I've been reading this forum for a few weeks now. Now I can post too. It's interesting to see how so many of us have been going through this process for so long. What's even more interesting is that even as we speak and we are going through the new announcements, it look as though every field office is procesing everything different from one another. I'm being processed through the DFW FO, but that's only because it's the closest place for me, doesn't mean I'll get to work there; would be nice though. Below is the order in which my process has been under the new annoucenment. Also, I have not seen any post about a video based situational judgement test, I take that tomorrow and I've never even heard of it before or from anyone in the posts.

Hey, We will be there together tommorow. The video based test is a situation or a couple of situatuions usually that they show you and then you have to explain how you would handle that situation. At leasts thats how the one I did back in 2005 when applying for law enforcement positions. So you already did the live scan and eqip....weird I got the COE but have not gotten anything from TSA about eQip.....weird how everyone is getting done differently.

I have gotten the COE, but nothing from TSA about eQip either. It really seems each FO is doing it differently or it is just happening that way.

Any idea of how important the physical test is? I would assume it's more important to do well on the written and interview portions than the PTA. I should be able to score "fair" on all the tests, but nothing more than "fair". They scheduled me today for next Mondays panel. Only 6 days to prepare.

Does anyone know if these forms are required to be completed before the PTA and will I be allowed to go through the PTA without them?

Well I just took the panel, FO SAC meeting, Written, Video, and UA....Was told that my Panel went "VERY" well so hoping to here more soon.
I didn't get the "Very" well, but was told I passed. Was told work out as much as I can, so I can score well on the PT when it's scheduled.

Yes, you have to get the forms signed or you will not be allowed to take the PTA.
If I were you, I would try to reschedule, if possible. I would hate to show up and be told I could not take the PT. They sent 3 guys home when I did my PT because they failed to get their forms signed.
Try to go to a local clinic as soon as possible, it should only cost you around 30-45 dollars for a quick physical and signature.

What kind of qualifications did that person have? I have a B.S. and 2 years LEO experience for a state agency.
Just try and remember that unlike some other federal agencies, a degree is not everything...I know a lot of guys who have applied and do not have much college.... they do have either military or police experience or both.... experience matters most as does your ability to present your experience to the board...if it looks good on paper you have to make it look good in person and some can not do that....

Hello all I've been looking at this site for sometime. Lots of great info. Thank you for that. I am on the new announcement only, my time line is
Applied-March 08
Phone Interview- April 08
I was a Little worried that I did not receive a COE email right after the phone interview like everyone else did. I did receive two Spam email right after i applied. One from Avue and the other FAMS. Any info would help from the NYC area.

Hey man! Well Im out of the Dallas office and just got everything done today. Listen....dont worry too much about not having a degree....impress them other ways. Many of the current marshalls did not have degrees when they first joined. Just do your best, be patient, and leave it in God's hands. Good luck.

Finished my PTA/Written this week, now waiting to hear from Avue regarding possible medical. Did well on the push/sit/pull ups but not so hot on the run, the written/video were fairly easy so I am interested in the results.
Anyone know how long the wait is from PTA/Written to medical?
I heard there will be June/July classes but nothing scheduled yet for late summer or fall. Really impressed with the staff at the FO, everyone was very cool and seemed squared away.
I am surprised how quick this process is going, I am sure it will come to a halt soon once they fill the pool w/ qualified apps.

Applied in Dec of 2005....I got my final offer this week:
EWR
wtf over?
I am going to pass.
I have 4 kids, a wife, her business, 4 rental homes..there is no way I am going to EWR.
The thing that really kind of torques my ***** about this whole thing is that after I got done smoke checking the PTA...I was told by the SAIC and the ASAIC not to worry about the new annoucement and that they were going to be able to keep me DTW...So I didn't bother with the new announcement.
I am currently going through FLETC in Glynco for CBP..due to my past 16 years of Spec Op's, PMC and Aviation experience and ratings, etc...once I hit GS11, I 'should' be able to slide right into an Air Unit...So that is the plan. I will be a GS9 in 1 year and the OT, arrests and siezures in Detroit land border is going to keep me plenty busy.
If I start the new announcement now...I wont be able to do anything with it until I leave here in July...I have no desire to do back to back academy trips.
If the FAMS want me, they'll keep me and send me to DTW..if they dont, they don't....and I will move on. I am calling and sending emails on Monday to both field offices and HR.
I am one day closer today to my 6(C) retirement...TSP, my 30% and SS than I was yesterday...buying 9 years back as well.
Its good to have options :D.
I'll let you all know what happens this week...I am very content with what ever happens.

Well as I said I finished everything at the Dallas FO and just waiting to here from DC on any info relating to the medical/backround. I got a question for the whole lot of you guys out there applying with me and please give me some feed back. I have both military and law enforcement experience. I did great on the panel and pretty good on the pta. I am young and have about half of the college credits I need to finish my degree. I told them that I am willing to go anywhere they need me to Fo wise. So my question is, do you all think that not having a degree will be a major stumbling block when it comes to selections or will my experience counterbalance that? If any of you are air marshals currently please give me some input. My ASAIC did not think that it would hurt me that bad due to doing well in the other categories but he said anything could happen. What do some of you all think. I know all of this is in the Lords hands now anyway but its nice to get feedback from your peers who are going through the same thing. Thanks!

I don't think that a B.S. or B.A. is a huge factor when they pick people. Me, for instance, I have 10 years Explosive Ordnance Disposal experience with one 7 month tour in Iraq. I have an associates degree as well....and will be starting my bachelors after I get settled at my field office. I think the military experience and combat experience play big roles...as well as previous LE experience too. I think they want people who aren't going to "vapor lock" during a real world situation...combat experience and LE experience are good indicators that you can handle stress IMO.
Just my .02!

To bad brother, EWR FO is a pretty cool place.
All the people I met were top notch, plus there is awesome pizza and bagels in that area.
But...cost of living/taxes are insane in NJ and tough place to raise a family. My wife is from Northern NJ, small 3bd homes are 500ish even in a bad market if you want a nice town.
Best of luck moving forward and do what is right for you/family.

Having a degree doens't mean a thing in this position, your military and LE time is plenty. If you didnt have the lather and no degree then your chances would be minimal. But who knows the governement is something else when it comes to hiring.

9 days later i wish it was that fast for me. I finsihed on 4/15/08 with the PTA, Panel, 2 Tests, SAC Interview, Drug Screen. The SAC Said I did pretty good on everything but not to put all my apples in one basket. He said I should apply for other Federal jobs too. Which I have done. I Did my Finger Prints on the 22nd so maybe the 9 day rule will start after that lol. I emailed my Field Office and he said My Packet was in DC. I did not do a Medical so im not sure if my packet is really in DC but thats what he said. Come on EOD.
