In 2-16-2004, 2 Detroit Police officers Jennifer Fettig 26,and Matthew Bowens 21,were shot and killed while making a traffic stop.Their families are trying to get the death penalty legalized.I'm behind them 100%,are you?

I support capital punishment, but even though Michigan doesn't have it, they are behind other states with murder who do have the DP. I don't know that having the DP would have prevented the senseless killing of these two officers, :( but I do believe that the suspect should die for his crime.

It is not about how much crime a state has it is about the wonderful  politicians being elected, which actually means it is about the people that are voting. Taking this into consideration, MAYBE it IS about the amount of crime, because if the people voting are committing the crimes they are not going to vote anyone in that will stand behind the DP!

With that said, CO has the death penalty and has only 2 people on death row, and has NOT "killed" anyone in like 20 years or something, so what is the point?? Thanks to us having the DP, the ba$tard illegal that killed the Denver officer a few weeks back will most likely NOT be extradited from his home country (gee, anyone want to guess where that is?) because the state has the DP. Therefore this little piece of ***** cop killer will live the rest of his life free at home, versus even coming to CO and rotting in jail!

With this in mind now, as a death penalty SUPPORTER, we should think about all of the "others" we have in our country and how the DP is a BENEFIT to them NOT a DETERANT!

All due respect,i bet you would want the death penalty if someone killed your loved one.I'd want it too.If someone kills a cop, they should be killed becasue they killed someone who's job is to protect and serve everyone.Law abiding citizen or lowlife criminal. And they killed another human being. The new law they are having a petition on is to make sure if you kill a corrections officer or police officer you would recive the death penalty. Now if the law were in place,Eric Lee Marshal 23,The ********* would be put to death. The murders prevented,i doubt it.The Death penalty doesnt prevent deaths, well in some cases, but the death penalty doesnt prevent deaths,it makes sure justice is served and that the monster who ended these young officer's lives would not be able to live, because he doesent deserve to.

My FIRST post stated I was a SUPPORTER. So the "all due respect" comment sounded crappy and implied my opinion was worthless, AFTER you had already posted that you agreed.

I am a SUPPORTER, but I also believe in being open minded and realistic. With this in mind, the fact that illegals committing DP crimes in the US can go home and live FREE, is a deterant to our already f*cked up justice system. I know we should clsoe the damn border, but without that happening before I die, we do need to look at ways to at least keep the little ba$tards here and let them rot in jail.

Don't get me wrong, I frequently have worthless opinions, and I post them regularly around here. :D

I wasn't looking for an apology or to say you looked stupid. Hell, knowing me, I was probably looking for a good fight on a hot topic, haven't had one in a while. Let me know if anyone comes around that I can duel with!

an overhaul of the justice system and more draconian measures are needed in inflicting punishment to deter crime.

What type of punishments would you suggest that will withstand an eighth amendment review? :)

Lets bring back hanging! And decapitation of prisoners in public! Hey,they deserved it.

NOTE:the new law of the DP is only for people who murder police officers. Not civillians. There is another law for civillian DP.

I'm from MI and I'm behind a death penalty 100% when it comes to cop killers.

I actually support the death sentence, period, even though I don't believe it to be an effective deterrent.

heh, you know as well as I do from our previous discussions that my punishments would never survive review in our current society. :D

Don't you mean that your suggestions for a death penalty method wouldn't survive a court review based on a constitutional challenge of the eighth amendment? ;)

Society doesn't have a voice or input on constituional challenges. :)

I'm happy with the current choices as long as they are carried out. :)

If Michigan allows abortion why don't they allow capital punishment?

Never figured out how you can allow abortion and not capital punishment. You can kill innocent babies but not killers?

If MI allows abortion but not the DP,that does not make sense.Killing innocent babies, and not cold blodded cop murders. The MI government need to have a Reality check!

Are you serious? Michigan has no choice with regards to allowing abortions, the SC made that decision.

Here is how I see it. Would you want someone who committed a capital crime to die with no pain or rot away in prison? However if you make the death penalty painful it may be considered unconstitutional. Prisons today are not like the penitentiary days where you lock
