Hello all,

I am just wondering if the FL. agencies honor the Full time Peace Officer status for NY. I have seen some agencies declare that they would honor other states certificates. I am wondering which agencies and if that is true or not.

Are you looking for a job in Florida Corrections? If you say NY Peace Officer, I am guessing you either work for Corrections or the Housing Authority because New York State does not call their Police Officers Peace Officers. So am I correct in assuming you are looking into Corrections or are you looking for the Streets.

I am looking for the streets. Yes, the NY state correction officers are Peace officers. I am not looking for corrections unless it is Federal but, either way I am still looking.

Are you a NY State Corrections Officer? NYSDOC academy training is not Police training and does not qualify someone to do a lateral to a police agency.

I might not understand what your asking so correct if I am missing something.

If your a CO then you can do a 2 week course and become a certified corrections officer in FL. After which you can can take a cross over course and obtain your LE cert.

Oh. Well now you got me interested in looking up to see what floridas training consist of. Either there corrections training is very good and long or the Police training is very bad and short.

Correctiuons and police do almost all the same mandated courses with the exception of a few. A deputy in Florida can be certified to work in the jail and on the road. Alot of your smaller SO's move their employees back n forth between the both.

NY has two types of LE certification. There are NYS Cert. Police Officers, who are your common PO's, Deputy Sheriffs, Park PO's, Troopers, etc. Then they have NYS Cert Peace Officers who have limited power. They usually carry weapons on duty, have arrest powers on duty, but not off duty. I believe they can also carry off duty. FDNY Fire Marshals, Correction Officers, Bay Constables, Part-Time & Seasonal PO's all have NYS Peace Officer Cert. Hope this helps.
