I was curious to see who attend polie week in DC and what it was like down there...
My friend went and said that everywhere you went LEOs had their badges out with the bands around them.
Also curious to see what departments allowed their officers to wear the black bands during this week.
My department didn't have us wear them, but some local departments did..Just curious... I guess it may had to do with if they issued them to us for the week they would have to collect them all. Who knows....
The black band placed around shields are called "mourning bands" and they are used to show respect for fallen LEO's. I can't understand why any agency wouldn't allow their officers to wear them, especially during in DC during the memorial. Guys on my job wear them anytime a LEO dies in a line of duty death within the tri-state (NY,NJ,CT) area.

thank you I had a brain fart to say the least on what to call them :o
One of my friends that works for a local campus pd couldn't wear them either cheif said it wouldn't be right since they never lost any body....
I think its more a sign of respect because we all face dangers everyday and anyone of us can become a casuality.

Exactly, it pay respect for ALL of who serve. I think your chief is a little narrow minded, i mean were all in this together. We all face the same type of danger. We all put ourselves at risk when ever we work.
