I am wondering if anyone has information on the Dewey Beach Police Department in Delaware. I am most interested in the training that seasonal officers go through, and what it is like working there as a seasonal officer. Thanks for your help!!!

A friend of mine was a seasonal in Rehoboth Beach which I belive trains the Dewey Beach pd. I belive he had 80 hrs of training even though he was ACT 120 certified.

A buddy of mine worked Rehobeth Beach seasonal as well. He loved it. I dont think its too tough to get into that.

Well actually i dont know because a PT test i took for Point Pleasant Beach Seasonal work in New Jersey was the hardest PT test i had ever taken.....even compared to full time police agencies.

Give it a shot....he always told me how much fun it was.

I was a seasonal there back in the summer 0f 02. Great times, awesome experience. I have many stories and advice, but I'll just say a few things. Although you are trained for 40 hours at Rehoboth and possibly an additional 30+ at Dewey's academy, you will be put out on the streets not knowing exactly what you are suppossed to do. Don't worry, no one else does either, you just have to do the best you can. After a week or two you will have everything pretty much down. Be prepared to write anybody and everybody for tickets which are all over $300.00 for petty things. The department has little funding outside of tickets, which they count on every summer to fund the department year-round even when the the population drops in the teens in the winter, so you have to put all sympathies aside. You will be expected and strongly encouraged to come back at the end of your shift with accceptable amounts of tickets, depending on your street assignment and the crowd. Also, I would strongly urge you to work night shift for two reasons. One; nothing, and I mean nothing, happens during the day, excpet for writing parking tickets and Two; it is HOT during the day. Furthermore, you may want to look into Ocean City Maryland's Seasonal program which gives seasonals much more responsibilities and training to seasonal officers, such as cars, and firearms. Dewey's biggest advantage is that you can see a lot of action if you look for it and you don't always have someone breathing down your back (unless you screw up something bigtime). Personally, I would stay away from Rehoboth or atleast research it and decide if it that is the kind of work you want to be doing.
