to become a sargeant in florida, do you need a bachelor in criminal justice, or can it be any degree?

I dont think its a state requirement to have a degree to move up in rank. It would be up to each individual department.

It is departmental policy that dictates requirements for promotion.

Generally for Sergeant, the requiremnts would be along the lines of X amount of years of service, with some amount of those years with that agency.

For example my department requirements are 4 yrs sworn law enforcement with two years at this agency. A degree is not required, but could help for promotional consideration.

My agency does not require you to have an actual degree to move up to Sgt., but a certain amount of hours in classes. Those hours are waived with a degree.

In addition you need the time on the road.

Its all department policy...just like they advised.
