Ok another question.

I am currently enrolled in college studying Counter-Terrorism/Homeland Security. When I decide to start applying for LE positions should I have already gone through a CJ Academy, or if I am hired will the department put me through? Even if the department will put me through, would it be better for me to have already gone through, will it make the odds of me being hired greater?

I am assuming I must have already taken my PAT & CJBAT tests before applying, correct?

Thanks, again.

Since you're in FLA, you're going to need to get your FL cert before applying to 90% of the agencies down here. You need to be god if you want the other 10% to pay for your academy. So basically finish your degree. Go to the academy. Get your job. Hope that helps, PM me if I was unclear.

If I were you I would try to apply at the ones who will put you through. It's much easier and a lot less stressful. Luckily I was able to get with an agency who sponsored me through and a few guys who were with me in my class has second jobs when we started - they all quit their seconds jobs because the academy took up too much time and energy. It's much easier when you know you're getting paid to go and you have a job when you're finished. If you have any other questions PM me.

It depends on what part of the state you're located. Most of the larger agencies in South Florida will hire you first and pay you to go to the academy.

depending on your criminal justice mode...

.....90% of the fla sheriff's will pay for your corrections academy
.....90% of police and sheriff only accept police certified officer's

that being said, central fla, and north fla may have limited
slots for sending recruits to a academy due to buget constraints.

south fla agencies have bigger populations and bigger tax base
and more bad guys, and cost more to live here.

plus you have to compete with agencies who lose officer's already certified
to other agencies, such as the jump from hialeah to davie situation.

good luck, in any event..!!!
