Description: Under general supervision, performs law enforcement duties and other duties required by law of the Sheriff. Duties may include patrolling, investigation of criminal offenses, preserve the peace, search, and rescue operations, transportation of inmates, criminal warrants & civil process, court bailiff, public assistance, & other duties as required. This announcement may be used for multiple positions within a one-month period. Requires knowledge of MT criminal procedures, basic First Aid, CPR, and basic law enforcement procedures. Requires skill in the use of firearms, driving on & off road, writing reports and basic record keeping. Successful applicant must meet the following requirements: obtain a complete physical by a certified MT physician prior to employment; must be a US citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.; be at least 18 years of age ; possess a MT drivers license & a good driving record; submit to a criminal background check; serve a one-year probationary period; & successfully complete a written examination, physical fitness testing, and oral board. Out of state applicants: POST certifications must be recognized by MT POST Council or they must successfully challenge the MT Post test prior to weight being given to that as a part of the hiring process.
