All,

I wanted to see if any one else on the board was going down to Baltimore for processing April 8-11. Mainly I wanted to get some advice from current officers or any one who has been through the process. I am currently an officer in PA. I have been working for a department for the past eight months while finishing my bachelors. I have one blemmish on my record from 2001 which was a summary disorderly conduct for obscene language. Obviously this was investigated during the background for my current department but considering other accomplishments and character through out my life they realized that yes, I am human and made a mistake after being provoked by the other actor involved. Although this is really just non-traffic citation in PA Ive heard a lot of guys get a DQ in Maryland for this offense. Does any one see this as a possible threat for me to get disqualified during processing. Any in put would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I went to Baltimore for college, now I work In Prince George's County MD which is close to the D.C. border. I also worked in P.A. as a Police officer. You may qualify for a lateral transfer. Make sure you ask about comparitive compliance training. You will only have to complete 4 to 6 weeks of training to adjust to MD law, firearms qualfication, etc, etc. Police work in Baltimore and surrounding areas is very busy and demanding. Get ready for WILD RIDE. Good luck!!!

Oh Ya I forgot. I would be very suprised if you got DQ'd for a disorderly conduct charge, especialy since you are a Police Officer with good standing with your current department. I work with alot of officers from P.A. and all that I know of said it was moderate to hard to get hired in MD.

About 20 years ago Baltimore gave a walk in test every week. It may have even been more than that they were so desperate for bodies.

I worked with a good Irish Catholic lad, he had about 8 kids, half were NYPD and half were B'more. At the time the NYPD actually had more qualified applicants than they could hire so they took the B'more test and got hired. I worked with one of his sons who was B'more and came back when they got to his name on the list.

Prince George's County Police are always hiring, and they are short staffed. Now is a good time to apply. I accidently used another officers login (godfather) mine is EPD4.
