Okay I printed out the CHP Applicant Study Guide from the CHP website. In the study guide,there is a paragraph where it says that a successful applicant brought attention to a book to help future CHP applicants prepare.

My question is has anyone ever heard of this book and would recommend it.

The book is called " Complete Preparation Guide,State Police Exam California". It is published by Learning Express.

I will be returning to college in the summer and taking an english/grammar,math,speech and a cj class.

Does anyone have any books that they can recommend. For Police preparation for all police processing not just the CHP.

These are the two most common that I've noticed. Check at your local library, chances are, they'll have it there too.

you can use the study guides... but the written test is only on english skills. it involves writing an essay, filling in the blanks in a paragraph with logical word choices, spelling and grammar.
it is not a hard test.
If you are rusty.. take an english class at the local college...

The CHP test is the standard POST exam, with an essay added. It's extremly easy.

I have the Learning Express book, and while it does give some good pointers as far as the TYPE of person they're looking for and different aspects of the job, the test prep itself is nothing beyond what a normal high school grad with 4 years of English would know. It has some sample tests inside, but as stated above, it's just basic grammar. Something that has proved helpful is the exercise plan in the book. It would have helped to know ahead of time that this plan was also included in my application packet.
